NECESSARY
FOR
DEVELOPMENT?

It is difficult to overemphasize the importance of te historical role that
military procurement has played in the process of technology development.
Knowledge acquired in making weapons was an important source of the
industrial revolution (Kaempffert 1991, p. 435).
There are increasing tensions raising questions abot a possible war.
While most people are worried about the impact on their safety, economists
are speculating the impact may have on global economies.
People cannot ignore the profits achieved by the technology and arms
during war. Aside from ethical debate, the relationship between government
and industry have a directly proportional effect. Not only does fighting in wars
benefit certain industries, the period after the conflict resolved presents
opportunities for construction companies and equipmenty producers. War is
big vusiness and a Keynesian argument would be that military spending is
the stimulant countries need to boost their economies in periods of slow
growth. War causes intense industrial activity and definitely influences GDP.
There is no doubt that GDP in the short-run grows after a war. According to
Bhatti, H.A(2015), The Arms Race during the Cold War precipitated a growth
of 7.6% GDP in 1984 in the U.S. Another way in which wars effects possitive
impact is employment. It estimated that in 2011, $1 billion of military spending
alone created 11,200 jobs both directly and indirectly in the U.S.
According to Kelly (2012), mass mobilization and industrialization made
the Great War particularly cost. The first World War was notable for the
dawning horror if military air power. WW1 was costly in terms not just of
quantity ut also in terms of quality. Great and heroic individuals lives were
horrily abbreviated.
The relationship between the war and economic development has been
controversial in economic histrory. In Krieg und Kapitalismus (1913), Werner
Sombart argued that in Western Europe war and the preparation for war
gave rise to the economic institutions of capitalism ( Smith 1985, pp. 29-30).
In War department, it says that the real business of the war is buying and
selling. The mass nature of wartime death is useful in many ways. It serves
as spectacle, as a diversion from the real movements of the war. It provides
raw material to be recorded into History, so that the children may be taught
History as sequences of violence, battle after battle.
According to Brandon (2020), some medical, industrial and digital
products come from war. Plastic surgery originated in WW1. industry in
weapons generated better guns and bombs where planes were
revolutuionized to outfit and modulations. And the origin of the internet came
from a military network that supposed to be used for communication. War has
drastic social changes like Civil War. And war for development formed an
new countries. It is also act of force that keeps any negative entity projecting
too much power.
Another aspect why war is necessary for development is economics, a
country can gai money by going to war but at the same time the country may
spend a lot of money and can cause economic distruction, social disruption
and extreme violence. For Science and technology, chemistry and medicine
led to improvements in the internal combustion engine, aircraft design, radio
and television , advances in antibiotics , medical surgerical techniques or war
is truly the mother of invention.
War is an incredibly wasteful and soul-destroying human activity. Most
wars are not “just wars” t all. It seems that war has been an integral part of
human experience, has contributed positive aspects to humanity and is
occasionally justifiable. War has desrupt lives but countries and nation
improved and developed because of different wars encountered.
