Module 1: The Self from the Various Disciplinal Perspectives

Lesson 1: Philosophical Perspective

Name: Sheena Fe G. Vecina Course & Year: BSED-Social Studies,First Year

Instruction: Explain your understanding by writing your thoughts on the given

statement. Write your answer in the space provided. Please avoid erasure and
write legibly.

“He who greatly excels in beauty, strength, birth or wealth,

or on the other hand who is very poor, or very weak, or very
much disgraced finds it difficult to follow reason.” – Aristotle,
Politics

Based on my own understanding and interpretation, the

statement above by Aristotle means that those people who have too much in life such as, beauty,
wealth, strength, and power are the same people who have a poor ability in coping or following
rules and authority. This people has the mindset that they are above from others, they use to
think that they can and they will get what they want even if it means that they will violate rules
and authorities believing that they have the ability to pass through it because they have the
connection and power. Experiencing so much luxuries could sometimes brought negative
impacts to oneself and others, in result one would become boastful and forget how to be human,
to respect others, and forget that there are rules or authority that needs to be followed.

On the other hand, those people who have less in life are the ones
who are considered to be a good follower and has the ability to admit authority, maybe because
they already understand on what really matters in life, and it is not wealth or power, it is on
how you treat others.
