ABSTRACT:
In this technological evolution, we all are eagerly waiting for the time to come when all
our appliances will be able to communicate with each other different way rather in a more
innovative way. Like-wise In this project we are trying to build a new approach of driving a car.
In this project we can easily handle the steering of the particular car in an innovative way rather
than just physically rotating the entire steering wheel of the car. Here the direction of the car
would be detected by simple hand gesture.

INTRODUCTION:
A gesture controlled robot using an accelerometer is one kind of robot which can be
operated by the movement of hand by placing an accelerometer on it. This project is divided into
two parts transmitter device and receiver device. Where a gesture device works as a transmitter
device and a robot works as a receiver device. When a transmitting device (accelerometer) is
placed on the hand, then it will send signals to the robot for the required operation.
The sensor will record the movement of hand in a specific direction which will result in
the motion of the robot in the respective directions. The robot and the Gesture instrument are
connected wirelessly through radio waves.
User can interact with the robot in a more friendly way due to the wireless
communication. We can control the car using accelerometer sensors connected to a hand. The
sensors are intended to replace the remote control that is generally used to run the car. It will
allow user to control the forward, backward, leftward and rightward movements, while using the
same accelerometer sensor to control the throttle of the car.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

SCENARIO-

Today the technical evolution is increasing day by day. There are drastic changes from
the old times to the current world due to the technology. There are many types of technologies
running in various fields and domains. The technologies are increasing rapidly in electronics,
medical, computers, mechanical, information technologies etc. For example, in electronics we
have embedded system , IoT(Internet of Things), automations and many more.

3
Suppose one is driving a car and continuously has to steer the wheel to go the desired
particular destination. One has to constantly be aware for the direction to steer the car into. For
each turn the drivers turns the car into the direction and sometimes it can be a tedious task if the
journey is a bit too long. So to reduce this effect and to make the communication much simpler
we have come up with an innovative solution.

PROBLEM-
We are using the steering wheel the turn the car into the particular direction. Instead, we
come up with an innovative idea of different method to turn the car. This method is rather much
simpler than the traditional steering wheel which can be a very tedious task when it comes to
covering a big journey altogether. As a result use of the traditional steering wheel proves to be
inefficient for long range as well as for short ranges.

SOLUTION-
Instead of using the traditional steering wheel, we can make use of the hand gestures for
determining the turns and the acceleration. This will not only reduce the impact of the
tediousness after a long journey but also is rather much safer to drive with.

PROJECT PLANNING:
In the project planning, basically it will contain a rough layout of the plans needed to be
carried by on a daily basis and this count will be maintained till the completion of the project.

4
The above diagram, it is a basic prototype of how the planning will be carried out on the
daily basis and all the task which are in the process of completing and the task which has been
completed, all will be accounted into the chart of objectives. Like this all the task will be listed
into the chart and till the project gets complete it will be updated periodically.

MODULE:

5
In the above diagram, it clearly depicts the modules which would be used in the proposed project
with absolute manner.

BLOCK DIAGRAM:

Fig.1. BASIC FLOW OF THE PROCESS

COMPONENT DESCRIPTION:
Arduino UNO - The Arduino UNO is an open-source microcontroller board based on the
Microchip ATmega328P microcontroller and developed by Arduino.cc. The board is equipped
with sets of digital and analog input/output pins that may be interfaced to various expansion
boards and other circuits.

6
Arduino NANO - The Arduino Nano is a small, complete, and breadboard-friendly board based
on the ATmega328P (Arduino Nano 3.x). It has more or less the same functionality of
the Arduino Duemilanove, but in a different package. It lacks only a DC power jack, and works
with a Mini-B USB cable instead of a standard one.

Arduino Motor Shield - The Arduino Motor Shield is a shield that lets you control various
loads that a typical Arduino pin cannot drive. The motor shield has quite a few features such as
current measuring and the ability to drive a single stepper motor.

RF Module(433MHZ) - Basically the RF modules are 433 MHz RF transmitter and receiver
modules. The transmitter draws no power when transmitting logic zero while fully suppressing
the carrier frequency thus consume significantly low power in battery operation. When logic one
is sent carrier is fully on to about 4.5mA with a 3volts power supply.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
 Arduino Uno
 Arduino NANO
 Arduino Motor Shield
 Rf Module(433Mhz)
 Connecting Wires
 4x Wheels
 4x Motors

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
 Arduino IDE

APPLICATION:
 Future Car
 User Friendly

7
 Environmental Friendly
 Saves Petrol
 Easier Life for Disabled People

LIMITATIONS:
 Laziness of user in displaying the gesture improperly can be fatal.
 Equipment and installation can be costly. This factor may add to the limitation because if
what equipment we install and how much cost it takes to install.
 If there is any damage to the cables or the circuit. It can be fatal.
 In very rare case, the reliability of the circuitry may decrease as time passes.

FUTURE SCOPE:
Looking at the current situation we can build cross platform systems that can be deployed
on various platforms. Driver distraction is a major cause of concern for maintaining safety on
road. Taking your hands off the steering wheel to turn on air conditioning or making a phone
call can have dire consequences. Gesture based system cars would enable the drivers to do all
that and even more without even looking at the dashboard. However the technology is still in
progress. The rapid pace of innovation and its ease of use will shift buyers towards favoring
cars with gesture recognition system in the future.
Currently, there aren’t too many gesture recognition applications available for public use,
but interestingly, despite its potential for real world applications, gesture recognition
technology is actually dominated by the videogame industry like Microsoft Kinect as well as
the automobile industry.  It’s truly exciting to see that gesture recognition technology is
catching on, and manufacturers granting access to developer’s means that pretty soon we
might see something totally amazing that even the creators themselves didn’t imagine. Man
has always pushed the boundaries with technology, and the work of a few can actually
change the world in this case.
