TYPE OF

CHEMICAL
REACTIONS
Ananay Saharan
Welcome!
first we need to know what are chemical
reactions?
*These are the reactions in which a
substance undergo a reaction with
another and ther is a change in chemical
properties of the reactants
There are Mainly 5 types of
chemical reactions.
1)Combination Reaction
2)Decomposition reaction
3)Displacement reaction(single)
4)Double displacement reaction
5)Redox reactions
*Some other reactions*
~Exo and Endothermic reactions
~ Precipitation reactions
~Nuetralization reaction
Combination reactions
The reaction in which two or more
products combine together to
form a single product is known as
combination reaction.
For ex-2Mg + O2 → 2MgO + heat

C + O2 CO2 + heat
CaO + H2O → Ca(OH)2 + heat
Decomposition
In such reactions a single product break
down to give simpler products.
For ex-
CaCO3 → CaO + CO2
2Pb(NO3)2→ 2PbO + 4NO2 + O2
2H2O → 2H2 + O2
Displacement Reaction
In this a more reactive element
displaces a less reactive element from
its salt solution.
For ex-
Fe + CuSO4 → FeSO4 + Cu
3Fe + 4H2O → Fe304 + 4H2
Double Displacement
Those reactions in which two compounds
react by an exchange of ions to form two
new compounds are called double
displacement reactions.
For Ex-

Fe2O3 + 6HCl 2FeCl3 + 3H2O

HCl + NaOH NaCl + H2O

AgNO3 + NaCl AgCl + NaNO3
Redox Reactions
Redox reactions are oxidation-reduction
chemical reactions in which the reactants
undergo a change in their oxidation states.
There is a change of electrons here.
For Ex-
P4 + 3NaOH + 3H2O → 3NaH2PO2 + PH3

Questions
A shiny brown coloured
element A, on heating in air
becomes black, because of
formation of b. Hence A and
B can respectively be
1)Ag, Ag2O
2)Cu, CuO
3)Fe, Fe2O3
4)Al, Al2O3
Green colour crystalline solid 'X'
when heated first becomes
colourless and then on further
heating it becomes brown during
this process two gases with the
smell of burning sulphur are also
evolved the brown coloured
compound is?
