• MICE travel involves a number of components, and agents
working in this field must provide a full range of travel and
conference services for large and small groups and events of
shorter and longer duration.
• Personnel and businesses involved in the MICE market include
corporate meeting planners, meetings and convention
departments of hotels, conference centers or cruise ships,
food and beverage managers, logistics firms, private tour
operators and transfer companies, incentive houses,
professional trade organizations, tourism boards, tourism
trade associations, and travel-selling professionals.
• Because of the organization and planning involved, typically,
years in advance, MICE travel agencies are usually affiliated
with large corporations. Destinations often market
themselves as MICE locations and bid for events through their
convention and visitor bureaus. They might be able to offer
subsidies to attract large events because of the increased
revenue the visitors provide through their economic impact
on the host location.
MICE defined..
• Meeting is the coming together of a group
of people to discuss or exchange information. In some
regions, meetings may be seen as a small-scale conference
by others.
• Incentive Travels include leisure trips emphasizing pleasure
and excitement and which may appear to have little or no
connection to business.
• Conference or Convention is an event where the primary
activity of the attendees is to attend educational sessions,
participate in meetings/discussions, socialize, or attend other
organized events.
• Exhibitions can generally be portrayed as ‘presentations of
products and services to an invited audience with the object
of inducing a sale or informing the visitors’.
Business Events
• Any public or private activity consisting of a
minimum of 15 persons with a common interest or vocation
held in a specific venue or venues and hosted by an
organization (or organizations). This may include (but not
limited to): conferences, conventions, symposia, congresses,
incentive group events, marketing events, special
celebrations, seminar, courses, public or trade shows, product
launches, exhibitions, company general meetings, corporate
retreats, study tours or training programs.
• Activities based on the organization, promotion, sales and
delivery of meetings and events; products and services that
include corporate, association and government meetings,
corporate incentives, seminars, congresses, conferences,
conventions events, exhibitions and fairs.
Types of MICE
• Meeting Travel
• The International Association of Professional Congress
Organizers defines a meeting as any number of people
coming together in one place for a particular activity, which
can be a one-time event or recur regularly. Simply put,
meeting travel refers to organizing any number of people for
such a meeting, which means it could also include a company
sporting trip.
• Conference Travel
• On the other hand, a conference is similar
to a meeting in that it is a gathering of people coming
together in one place, but conferences usually have specific
objectives and exchanges of information. Therefore,
conference travel involves organizing itineraries, meetings,
and events for people from the same profession or field.
• Incentive travel
• Incentive travel may be one of the harder
components of MICE travel to understand since it doesn't
necessarily deal with group events. Instead, incentive travel is
typically given to employees as a reward. Incentive travel
doesn't usually have a business or explicit educational
component but instead is more of a non-business vacation
with the aim of continued motivation for performance.
• Exhibition Travel
• At an exhibition, products or services are
displayed, and they might be the primary focus of the event,
which means that exhibition travel agents are those who
organize such showcases. Exhibitions are often included in
other conferences and meetings, though, meaning that
there is often overlap between agents in these industries.
Businesses court new clients and debut their latest offerings
at these events.

especially the incentive niche, many of which are organized

understand the different terms that comprise the acronym.
While meeting and conference travel may sound similar, for
instance, the slight differences between them will be
important when explaining your needs to your agent.

(CVB)
• CVB acts as a center body to facilitate growth whether it is
government or privately owned to solicit visitors and MICE events
into the country
• CVB play as an intermediary between MICE visitors or organizers
and qualified local providers
• A CVB’s role is to represent the country by investing in marketing
efforts to support the MICE industry of the country it represents
Associations
• Associations are usually not-for-profit organizations
and can be formed at a national, regional, or even
international level
• Once these associations set their schedule to hold conferences, all
of the related work is delegated to specialized service providers
called Professional Conference Organizer (PCO)

• Corporations are organizations established to generate profit and
provide financial return to their owners
• The main purpose is to communicate with their employees or
clients. Lead-time to organize meetings is also much shorter than
association meetings

Conference Organisers (PCO)
• A Professional Conference organizer (PCO) specializes in planning and
managing congresses and conferences for associations that would like to
hold a scheduled conference but do not wish to undertake the bulk of the
work
Incentive Houses
• Incentive houses usually coordinate with corporations in shaping incentive
programs that can help a company reach its goals
• Incentive travel programs are very specific both in terms of size and
program details that must be specifically catered to an individual
company

• A DMC is a local service organization that provide consulting services,
creative events and exemplary management of logistics based on an in
depth knowledge of the destination and the needs of the incentive and
motivation markets
