Cogent’s three North American businesses now more than ever present a single face to the
market - Cogent Power Inc., a strong customer focused business, providing a complete
package of goods and technical services to the transformer, motor and generator industries.
Since the beginning of 2000, Cogent has made 5several important investments that
0
broaden the scope and reach of the company. In July of 2000, the core making facility in
Monterrey, Mexico was commissioned. In August of 2000, the acquisition of the
Kienle + Spiess Group, a leader in the stamped laminations industry, was completed.
Combined, the new company, Cogent Power Ltd, forms a unique business that offers
customers complete solutions, from steel through to components, design to delivery.
The Cogent name reflects the true international
25 nature of the company. With North
American manufacturing sites in Canada, USA and Mexico, Cogent’s strong presence forms
a significant part of an even larger global company. In total, Cogent provides products and
services from ten separate manufacturing sites, in seven countries, supporting the global
market for transformer, motor and generator components.

Introduction
This publication describes the range of grain oriented electrical steels -
Unisil-H and Unisil - produced by Orb Electrical Steels Ltd in the United
Kingdom. These products comply with the latest specifications of the
American Society for Testing and Materials, the International
Electrotechnical Commission and the European Committee for
Standardization.

Quality assurance
The products described in this brochure
represent the latest materials in the
development of grain oriented electrical steel.
They are subjected to rigorous quality control
procedures throughout the processing routes.
Importantly, the quality management system
of Orb Electrical Steels Ltd is approved by
Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Ltd to the

Specific core loss
Epstein tests
Grain oriented electrical steels are graded Epstein frame method described in
according to the specifications of ASTM A343. For further information, the
ASTM A876/A876M. As set out in this nearest equivalent grades in the AISI and
standard, the measurement of specific core European Standards (EN) are given below,
loss is performed according to the 25 cm where appropriate.
#
Note 3: The nearest AISI equivalent to ASTM 27P066 is 27M1H. However, this grade is not
offered as a standard product and M103-27P / 27M0H is given as the equivalent
grade, with the appropriate guarantee. Also, AISI do not list a high permeability grade
at 0.30 mm, therefore, the grade M111-30P / 30M1H is offered.
