(Regulation 2020)
Time: Three Hours Maximum Marks: 100
Answer All Questions

PART - A (10 x 2= 20 Marks)

1 On what basis Industrial structures are classified? CO1

2 What is "Resonance"? CO1
3 Sketch the reinforcements in nibs with large loads. CO2
4 State the functions of corbels. CO2
5 What are nuclear containment structures? CO3
6 What are the requirements of power plants? CO3
7 Name the types of towers recommended as per the codal CO4
provisions.
8 What do you understand by broken wire condition? CO4
9 What are the general requirements of machine foundations? CO5
10 Mention the various parameters influencing the design of a CO5
machine foundation.

PART-B(5x16=80 Marks)

11 (a) i. Discuss briefly how the planning for layout requirement is (8) CO1
done for an industrial building. Supplement your answer
with sketches.
ii. State the important guidelines from Factories act with (8)
reference to planning of industrial buildings.
(or)

1
11(b) i. How would you ensure protection against noise and (8) CO1
vibration in industries? Also list out the general fire safety
requirement for an industrial building.
ii. Explain in brief the planning, types and elements of an (8)
industrial building.
12 (a) Design a RCC corbel to carry a factored load of 500 kN at a (16) CO2
distance 200 mm from the face of a 300 x 300 mm RCC
Column. Use M35 concrete and Fe 415 steel.
(or)
12 (b) A flight of a dog-legged staircase has the following details: (16) CO2
Going =2.25 m, Landing width=1.25 m, Rise of a flight=1.5 m
Support width = 300 mm. Choosing appropriate dimensions
for rise and tread, and taking the flight to span
longitudinally between the supports, design the flight.
Assume live load as 3 kN/m2.
13 (a) i. Discuss the factors to be borne in mind while designing (8) CO3
nuclear containment structures.
ii. Draw the typical layout of hydro power plant structures. (8)
(or)
13 (b) i. Explain the main factors to be allowed for design of RC (8) CO3
containment structures.
ii. Explain the design procedure of cooling tower. (8)
14 (a) Design a Chimney of 40m height having external diameter of (16) CO4
2.5m throughout the height. The chimney has a fire brick
lining 10cm thick for 20m height above base. Air gap is 8cm.
Temperature of gases is expected to be 200°C more than the
temperature of the surrounding air. Es = 2.05 x 107 N/cm2.
Use M20 concrete. Density of lining is 19,500 N/m3 and that
of concrete 24,000 N/m3
(or)
14 (b) Sketch the elevations of different types of transmission line (16) CO4
towers. State the assumptions made in the analysis and
discuss about the loading conditions to be considered in the
design.
15 (a) i. Describe the steps involved while designing foundation for (8) CO5
reciprocating machines.
2
ii. How the foundation for towers be designed for various loads (8)
acting on it?
(or)
15 (b) i. Explain the design procedure for turbo generator (8) CO5
foundation.
ii. Sketch and discuss in detail the various types of foundations (8)
used for towers.
