1. A satellite in synchronous orbit is used to communicate with an earth station at


a distance of 40,000 km. The satellite has an antenna with a gain of 15 dB and
a transmitted power of 3 W. The earth station uses a lO-m parabolic antenna
with an efficiency of 0.6. The frequency band is at f=10 GHz. Determine the
received power level at the output of the receiver antenna.

2. Draw the block diagram of an ideal demodulator for band pass digital PAyr sig-
nals. Why is it necessary to generate a phase coherent carrier at the receiver to
perform demodulation of the received signal.

3. Consider the four-level data sequence dn= 0013120332010. Determine the Duobi-
nary precoded sequence; 'the transmitted sequence, received sequence and the
decoded sequence for the given data.

4. Describe the working of a decision feedback equalizer.

controlled by a voltage source inverter at constant V/f ratio. Calculate

approximate values of the following.

(i) Speed for a frequency of 30 Hz. And 80% of full load torque.

(ii) Frequency for a speed of 1000 rpm and full load torque.

(iii) Torque for a frequency of 40 Hz. And speed of 1100 rpm.

11. Describe the converter and control systems used for (a) Constant air gap flux

density (b) Constant V If operation of a synchronous motor.
