Lesson Plan in English


I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

a. identify figures of speech in poem;


b. appreciate the role figures of speech in literature; and
c. construct sentences using figures of speech.

A. Before the lesson/ Pre-writing

Directions: Identify the meaning of the following words.

3. Motivation
“The Fast and the Speech”

Mechanics:
1. The class will be divided into four (4) groups.
2. Each group will be given a group of words.
3. Students has only 1 minute to memorize the words that was given to them.
4. While each group is memorizing their assigned words, they will be given two pictures
that they are going to differentiate after the activity.
5. Every time that each group will see their group colour flash on the board, they are going
to stand and say their group of words.
a. Group 1 (blue)
b. Group 2 (pink)
c. Group 3 (red)
d. Group 4 (yellow)
6. The group who stand simultaneously and say the words properly and clearly will be the
winner.
7. The winner will be announce after the presentation of each group of the two photos that
was given to them before the activity.

B. During the Lesson/ While-writing

Figures of Speech - a word or phrase that possesses a separate meaning


from its literal definition.

1. Simile – a direct comparison between two ideas using the words


LIKE or AS.

Examples: Billy is like a cheetah at dinner time.


He crept into the room as quiet as a mouse.
The cloud was fluffy like a cotton candy.

2. Metaphor – a comparison that makes an implied or hidden


connection between two ideas.

Examples: My mother is a mystery.


She has a golden heart.
You’re my fireworks.

3. Personification – giving a non-human object human attributions


or characteristics.

Examples: The moon is playing hide and seek with the clouds.
Her flowers is begging for water.
Time flies so fast when people are having fun.
4. Hyperbole – an exaggerated claim that emphasizes a point.

Examples: The girl has a hundred thousand reasons to walk away.


I have died everyday waiting for you.
His bag weigh a ton.

C. After the Lesson/ Post- writing

Mechanics:

1. Divide the class into four (4) groups.

2. Each group will be given a poem/ an excerpt.

3. Each group will be named according to four (4) figures of speech.

3.1 Group 1 will be the ‘Hyperbole’ group.

3.2 Group 2 will be the ‘Personification’ group.

3.3 Group 3 will be the ‘Metaphor’ group.

3.4 Group 4 will be the ‘Simile’ group.

4. Each group must identify and enumerate the assigned figures of


speech that was assigned to them.

Find the figures of speech that was used in the sentences and identify what
kind of figures of speech it is. Answer only.
