TOPIC: POSTER DESIGNING

A poster is a textual cum graphical representation of a subject of social

importance.
The purpose of designing a poster is either to create social awareness about
issues related to current problems or attend invitation and write notice for the
general public through words or graphics.
It is usually designed to be displayed on a board or a wall.
They can also be used by the Government, Municipal Authorities and NGOs to
educate the common public about important issues.

IMPORTANT FEATURES:
1. LAYOUT:
i) The layout should be eye catching and visually attractive.

ii) A catchy suggestive title in the form of a slogan, jingle or a short verse
needs to be provided. For example, Speed thrills but kills; Pollution
needs a solution; Green is clean.

iii) Drawing / sketches / match stick figures can be used for graphical
presentation in the layout.

iv) The letters displayed should have different shapes and sizes.

v) There should be proportionate spacing between the text and graphics.

2. CONTENT:

i) The content is actually the subject theme or matter.

ii) Descriptive passages should be avoided. Rather, the highlighted points

should be brief and concise. (They are read from a distance)

iii) If the content is about an event / campaign / celebration, it should bear

the date, time and venue.

iv) The name of the issuing authority must be stated at the bottom of the
poster. (Preferably bottom centre)

v) Word Limit – 50 words

vi) Total marks – 3 (Format – 1, Content – 1, Expression – 1)

3. EXPRESSION:

i) The overall organisation and sequencing of the matter.

ii) Appropriate and accurate language.

iii) Creativity in terms of content and design.

SAMPLES:
Design a poster for your School Fete which is being organised to help
the victims of the earthquake which had occurred recently.
