AgOnline is pleased to offer the X department support for the development of X. This support will consist of consultation
and hands-on development by AgOnline, Digital Education and ITAP team. Responsibilities, expectations and terms are
outlined below. Please review this document carefully and circulate it for authorizing signatures.

Training and Development Support

This process typically takes 14 to 16 weeks. However, each design project differs and may be completed in a shorter or longer
time frame. Timeline estimate:

 Initial Planning (kickoff) – 1-2 weeks


 Course Planning/Designing – 5 weeks
 Course Development – 6 weeks
 Course Finalization and Review – 2 weeks

Throughout the design of the course authors will receive individual guidance from AgOnline, Digital Education and ITAP
Instructional Design team. Responsibilities of each group:

Faculty Member

 Actively design and develop the bulk of online content such as the online syllabus, a schedule, assignments, and
assessments.
 Explore, plan and implement a delivery strategy that will engage online students.
 Integrate online best pedagogical practices into the newly designed course.
 Be actively involved in course direction and content organization.
 Work within a schedule and deadlines.
 Be willing to learn and incorporate student centered learning strategies to make content engaging.
 Comply with copyright and accessibility guidelines.
 Partner effectively with the course design team.
 Be open to reviews and sharing of ideas for the course.
 Serve as the subject matter expert in the process.
Instructional Designer

 Work with the faculty member to discuss the course development process.
 Draft a course development schedule that outlines agreed upon milestones for content completion.
 Identify and assist with new technologies for use in the course.
 Map out and build a course design structure in Blackboard.
 Assist in developing new course content and building in Blackboard.
 Review, advise and assist in creating accessible content.
 Assist in review and maintenance of content following the first semester of instruction.

AgOnline Program Manager

 Connect faculty with the resources to develop their course.


 Coordinate with faculty member, instructional designers, video producers, digital education, and other resources for
development.
 Facilitate meetings and discussions.
 Advocate on behalf of the faculty and College of Agriculture throughout the course development process.
 Ensure project is completed on the agreed timeline.

Funding

Payment as follows:
o $2000 per credit course creation incentive
 25% paid after first module development completed
 50% paid after all modules developed
 25% paid after AgOnline Program Manager and Instructional Design team review the course.
o Each summer session the course is taught the department will receive per student, per credit hour rate as follows:

 Course has been taught 3 consecutive summer sessions
 Course has consistently maintained an enrollment of 25 students or more
 Faculty member has completed Quality Matters Training
 Course has been through a Quality Matters Review between years 2 and 3
 Quality Matters feedback is incorporated into the redesign
Research and Assessment

We also ask that you cooperate with AgOnline in conducting research to enhance our understanding of the efficacy of online
teaching and learning. Also, we will collaborate with you on potential research and publication in your discipline area or as
contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

At the conclusion of the course, AgOnline and Digital Education will coordinate with the department to administer an
evaluation so that the students may assess the overall quality of their online learning experience.

Departmental Responsibilities

The department will agree to the reassigned time of the course author’s time to develop and teach the online course no fewer
than three consecutive years during the summer session.

The department will be expected to conduct student evaluations of the course curriculum and instructional delivery through
the University’s Course and Instructor Evaluation system and to provide AgOnline access to the outcomes of this evaluation.

The department will provide instructional staffing of the online sections and will maintain sole authority over all curricular
aspects of the course.

Course Cancellation

The AgOnline Program Manager and Instructional Design Team believe that the development of the course has fallen too far
behind the development schedule they may request that the course be cancelled for that summer.

Additional Terms

 This course will be conducted under the policies and regulations governing all Purdue courses, including but not limited to
the Section 508 of the 1998 Rehabilitation Act and Fair Use of Copyrighted Material

 Developed online courses will be taught no fewer than three consecutive years during summer session.
 Section enrollment caps will be no lower than those of on-campus sections. In the interest of maximizing the impact of
courses, course authors will be encouraged to explore pedagogies, technologies and staffing strategies that will allow larger
numbers of students to be effectively instructed in online sections.
 All aspects of the online section will be conducted online, and campus classroom space will not be reserved for online
sections. No face-to-face campus meetings or individual instructional sessions will be required. Course exams may be
conducted in campus facilities.
 Intellectual property rights for assigned online sections accrue to Purdue University. The University may use developed
online materials for additional classes instructed by other instructors. However, course authors may use developed online
materials in other contexts, such as consulting, noncredit instruction, or instruction at another institution.
