Check the product label for technical specifications. Check voltage and frequency before
use.

5 Assembly / mounting / installation

• Mounting, electric connection and start-up only to be executed by qualified personnel
(according to EN 50110-1and IEC 60364).
• It is the installer’s responsibility that the installation and safety instructions are in
accordance with current standards and regulations (according to EN-ISO 13857 and EN
ISO 12100-1).

Page 8 Assembly / mounting / installation
• Every fan has to be grounded according to the current standard EN 50178.
• Do not use the fan as part of a construction.
• In case a moving part of the fan (the impeller) is below 2.7m (measured from the floor
to the lowest point of the fan), a protective wire guard (according to EN-ISO 13857) is
mandatory.
• Remove the red drainage plug, mounted at the lowest point of the motor. Keep the red
drainage plug in a safe place, to be replaced during cleaning and maintenance work.
• Keep the water outlets in the casing open at all times.
• Do not anchor the fan with cement or expanding seal or sealing foam in its mounting
position.
• Always attach the cover on the hub. This avoids humidity penetrating the bearings,
causing a serious reduction of the life span.

CAUTION: In case of speed regulation, the fan may vibrate when

incorrectly mounted / installed. Check this before completing the
installation.

CAUTION: The fan must always be built-in or mounted in a stable way

before taking in operation.

Storage / transport Page 9

6 Storage / transport
• Transport and store the fan in its original packaging only.
• Storage temperature: -40 0C to +60 0C / -40 0F to +140 0F .
• Avoid impacts and unnecessary loads to packaging and / or fan.
• In case the packaging is damaged, check for damages on the fan.

7 Start-up
Before connecting the fan to mains power supply be sure that the specifications on the
type plate match the local voltage and frequency. Make sure that the fan controller is
suitable for the fan or that the fan is suitable for the controller.

When the fan is powered up to full speed, it may occur that, during a short period of
time and under certain conditions, such as a humid or dusty environment, the belt
produces a squeaking sound. Check the belt tension if the noise continues.

CAUTION: If the fan is provided with a cable and the production label
states AAxx, wiring diagram I of chapter 12.11 applies.

CAUTION: If the fan is provided with a cable and the production label
states ABxx, wiring diagram II of Chapter 12.11 applies.

To change the direction of rotation for single phase fans the brown and red wires have to
be exchanged.
3-phase fans rotate with a left-rotating field and standard connection in the correct
direction.

For Star or Delta consult the production label:

D = Delta connection for 240V.
Y = Star connection for 420V.

8 Maintenance and maintenance schedule

CAUTION: Never carry out maintenance work on a

working / rotating fan! Always disconnect from mains
power supply before maintenance work.

8.1 During all maintenance of the fan:

• The mains voltage has to be switched off.

GF-C Fan Belt Drive

Operation instructions
Edition: 08/2015 M 87-19-9576 EN
Page 10 Troubleshooting
• The power circuit has to be disconnected and secured against reconnection.
• All rotating parts have to be brought to a complete standstill.
• All safety and work regulations have to comply to EN 50110-1 and EN 1010-1.
• All work has to be carried out by qualified personnel (according to EN 50110-1 and IEC
60364).

8.2 Servicing:
• Cleaning the fan regularly extends the lifetime of the fan.
• Routine maintenance and cleaning should be carried out at least every 6 months.
• Let the fan run at full speed for at least 2 hours a month, to evaporate humidity that may
have penetrated and to prevent corrosion of the bearings.

8.3 Cleaning:
• Before cleaning, close the condense opening in the motor using the red drainage plug.
• Check fan and air lines regularly for contamination.
• Use a damp cloth or a dry brush to clean the fan.
• Do not use aggressive detergents.
• Prevent water penetrating the motor or electric installation.
• After cleaning remove the red drainage plug at the lowest point of the fan.
• Let the fan run at full speed for at least 2 hours, to evaporate humidity that may have
penetrated and to prevent corrosion of the bearings.

8.4 Bearings:
• The bearings are maintenance-free. The life span of the bearings is, with normal use,
approx. 30,000 hours. After this period the bearings must be replaced.
• Regularly check the condition of the bearings by rotating the impeller manually. It must
rotate smoothly and without noise.

8.5 V-belt:
• Check V-belt on a regular basis according to below figure.
• Should the V-belt not be tight enough, adjust the belt tensioner to the desired
tension according to Chapter 12.10 is realized.
• Should adjustment not be possible anymore, replace the V-belt by a new V-belt.
• Only use original parts.

9 Troubleshooting
CAUTION: In case the fan does not rotate this may be
caused by the thermal protector. The fan turns on again
automatically. Contact your installer in case of
malfunctions.

To be checked by the installer:

• Is there a problem with the mains power supply?
• Is the fuse blown?

GF-C Fan Belt Drive

Operation instructions
Edition: 08/2015 M 87-19-9576 EN
Discard Page 11
• Is the wiring loose?
• Are the bearings jammed?
• Is the impeller blocked?

Fault: Solution:
Bearings noisy and/or rotate difficult. Replace bearings (1)
Fan does not start or rotates too slow. No power supply:
• Turn on the power supply
• Switch on controller
• Check fuse and, if necessary, replace (1)
With power supply:
• Check capacitor and replace if necessary (1)
• Check motor and replace if necessary (1)
Motor protection switch rotates the fan off. • Clean
• Replace bearings (1)
• Check motor and replace if necessary (1)
• Repair or replace controller (1)

Impeller rotates slowly at full power supply. • Check if all phases are connected
• Check if the correct voltage is supplied
(1) Use original spare parts only.

10 Discard
Throw electrical appliances in the garbage.
At the end of the life cycle of the device it must be discarded in an environmentally friendly
way.
Observe local laws and regulations on the disposal of liquids, chemical waste, metal,
electronic and electrical appliances and waste.

Always sort and recycle waste.
