LANTIME NTP Time Server
Meinberg LANTIME devices are stratum-1 standalone time servers which provide a high-accuracy refe-
rence time to IP networks via the Network Time Protocol (NTP). The main difference between the LANTIME
models is the primary time source from which a device derives its reference time. Primary time source
options include external radio clocks, built-in DCF77, GPS, or IRIG receivers, a hybrid combination of a
DCF77 and a GPS receiver or a free running clock module.
The radio clock modules are assembled in a modular case which also includes a single board computer,
and a power supply unit. Configurable settings can be modified via menus on the 2 row x 40-character LC
display with background illumination and the four buttons in the front panel. A failure output can be used to
generate an alarm signal if a malfunction is detected.
The single board computer runs a Linux system which is loaded from flash disk into RAM at power-up.
Aside from NTP, the Linux operating system supports additional network services like SSH, HTTP(S),
SNMP, all supported IPv4 and IPv6 which allows remote configuration or monitoring across the network,
e.g. using a common web browser. Remote access from the network can also be disabled for security
reasons.
Changes in the radio clocks’ receiver status, errors conditions, and other events generate error messages
which can be logged on either the local Linux system, or on another syslog server in the network.
Additionally, those messages can be sent to a management console by SNMP traps, automatic emails, by
Windows Popup-Messages or on the big display VP100/NET. If it is necessary to provide redundancy
against hardware failure then it’s also possible to install several LANTIME NTP servers in the same
network.

based Global Positioning System (GPS). Because of this operation of the LANTIME/GPS/AHS is ensured
worldwide. During normal operation the GPS radio clock passes the highly accurate reference time to the
NTP time server which makes the reference time available to the network. The radio clock module is
assembled in an aluminium profile case for 35mm DIN mounting rails which also includes a single board
computer and a power supply unit. An additional extension board with different functions and outputs can
be included in this housing to adapt the system to customers needs. Configurable settings can be
modified via serial terminal connection. The external antenna/converter unit is connected to the system

LANTIME/SHS NTP Time Server
The LANTIME/SHS (Secure Hybrid System) has a built-in hybrid radio clock which derives its primary
reference time from the satellite based Global Positioning System (GPS) as well as from the german long
wave transmitter DCF77. During normal operation the hybrid receiver passes the highly accurate reference
time to the NTP time server which makes the reference time available to the network. If either the difference
between the time information of both systems or the difference between the PPS signals exceeds a
configurable limit of some milliseconds, or if one of the both systems stops generating a time telegram,
then the hybrid radio clock stops generating any output signals, preventing the NTP time server from
spreading bogus time information on the network. If the time difference is within the limit again, the user
has to confirm the error before the Lantime restarts normal operation. Both the primary and the secondary
clock include their own high quality chrystal oscillators which let the clocks provide accurate time even if
they are running free for a few days. The hybrid receiver module is assembled in a 19" modular case (1U)
which also includes a single board computer and a power supply unit. Configurable settings can be
modified via menus on the LC display and five buttons in the front panel. The external GPS antenna/
converter unit is connected to the system with up to 250 m of Standard Coaxial Cable RG58. The external
DCF77 antenna is mounted in a weather resistant plastic housing, suited to be installed outdoor or inside
the building. An additional overvoltage protector is available.
Pulse Outputs: Pulse per second and pulse per minute, TTL, active high
Alarm Relay: Time-Limit relay output indicates that the time difference of the clocks exceeds the limit

NTP Time Server LANTIME/PZF
The built-in PZF509 radio clock of the LANTIME/PZF derives its reference time from the german long wave
transmitter DCF77. Because of this operation of the LANTIME/PZF is possible in the most regions of
europe. During normal operation the DCF77 radio clock passes the highly accurate reference time to the
NTP time server which makes the reference time available to the network. The radio clock module is
assembled in a 19" modular case (1U) which also includes a single board computer and a power supply
unit. Configurable settings can be modified via menus on the LC display and five buttons in the front panel.
The external antenna is mounted in a weather resistant plastic housing, suited to be installed outdoor or
inside the building. An additional overvoltage protector is available.
Pulse Outputs: Pulse per second and pulse per minute, TTL, active high
1-5
LANTIME/TCR NTP Time Server
The built-in TCR510 receiver of the LANTIME/TCR derives its reference time from an incoming modulated
or unmodulated IRIG A/B or AFNOR signal. During normal operation the TCR510 timecode receiver passes
the reference time to the NTP time server which makes the reference time available to the network. The
tomecode receiver module is assembled in a 19" modular case (1U) which also includes a single board
computer and a power supply unit. Configurable settings can be modified via menus on the LC display and
five buttons in the front panel.
1-6
NTP Time Server LANTIME/NDT
The built-in FRC509 free running clock of the LANTIME/NDT is equipped with a high accuracy HQ oscillator.
The always valid time is made available to the NTP. The free running clock can be synchronized by an
external NTP server. The difference to the external NTP server is readjusted by small steps of the FRC509.
Because of this it is possible to provide an accurate pulse per second (PPS), a serial time string and a 10
MHz output. Because of the high quality oscillator the time accuracy of the FRC509 is ensured also over
longer periods without external synchronisation. The FRC clock module is assembled in a 19" modular
case (1U) which also includes a single board computer and a power supply unit. Configurable settings can
be modified via menus on the LC display and the five buttons in the front panel. An external antenna is not
necessary.
Pulse Outputs: Pulse per second and pulse per minute, TTL, active high

LANTIME/DCT/AHS(...DHS) NTP Time Server
The built-in UA509SV radio clock of the LANTIME/DCT/AHS derives its reference time from the german
longwave transmitter DCF77. Because of this operation of the LANTIME/DCT/AHS is ensured round the
clock in most parts of Europe. During normal operation the DCF radio clock passes the accurate reference
time to the NTP time server which makes the reference time available to the network. The radio clock
module is assembled in an aluminium profile case for 35mm DIN mounting rails which also includes a
single board computer and a power supply unit. An additional extension board with different functions and
outputs can be included in this housing to adapt the system to customers needs. Configurable settings

Driver Software
DOS / Win 3.x / Win 9x: The device driver disk is shipped with all PC plug-in radio clocks. The disk includes a
resident driver (TSR), a monitoring program and some utilities. The resident driver reads
the time from the radio clock in periodic intervals and adjusts the computer's system
time. When the computer operates in text mode the current radio time can be displayed
in a box at the corner of the screen. The monitoring program shows the clock's and the
TSR's status information and lets the user check the signal and second marks received
from DCF77.
Win NT / Win 2000: The driver disk for Windows NT (version 3.51 or greater) can be ordered optionally. The
software supports all Meinberg plug-in radio clocks for PCs and all radio clocks which
send out the Meinberg standard time string via serial RS-232 interface. A Windows NT
service is installed to keep system time synchronized with the radio time. A monitoring
utility is used to install and configure the time service. When the service is operating, the
monitoring utility can be used to check the clock's status and the status of the time
service. If a plug-in radio clock is used, the signal and second marks received from
DCF77 can be monitored.
OS/2: The driver disk for OS/2 can be ordered optionally. The package includes a device driver
and a monitoring utility running under the Presentation Manager. The monitoring utility
shows the radio clock's status and the signal and second marks received from DCF77
Novell NetWare: The driver disk for NetWare 3.11 or greater can be ordered optionally. The software
supports all Meinberg plug-in radio clocks for PCs and all radio clocks which send out
the Meinberg standard time string via serial RS-232 interface. A time server NLM (NetWa-
re Loadable Module) is loaded on a file server with a radio clock built in or connected to
a serial port. The time server software keeps the file server time synchronized with the
radio time and makes the radio time available on the network. File servers without radio
clock can be synchronized across the network using a time client NLM which requests
the radio time from a time server. A resident driver for DOS/Windows can be installed on
workstations to keep workstation time synchronized to the radio clock.
UNIX: For most UNIX platforms, a public domain software called NTP (Network Time Protocol)
provides time synchronization functions for single computers and across the network.
The package is shipped as source code and must be compiled on the target platform.
During installation, Meinberg radio clocks can be configured as reference clocks. Instal-
lation and configuration instructions are shipped together with the driver disk. The
package can also be downloaded from the Internet (http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~ntp).

TCG510 IRIG A/B Generator
Function: The Board TCG510 was designed for the generation of IRIG and AFNOR standard
timecodes. Particularly it is intended for operation with the Meinberg GPS-Radioclocks
GPS161, GPS163 and GPS167 as well as the DCF77 correlation receiver PZF509.
Apart from the digitally generated amplitude-modulated code, TCG510 also provides
the unmodulated DC-Level shift code. The modulated sine wave carrier and the boards
internal time pattern are derived from the radioclocks disciplined oscillator. For special
applications, the board can be equipped with a freewheeling oscillator (OCXO or TCXO).
Signals needed for operation are a synchronuos pulse per second signal (PPS), a
serial timestring at RS232 level, and a 10MHz reference clock as mentioned above.
Outputs: AM sine-wave signal: 3VPP (MARK), 1VPP (SPACE) into 50 ohm IRIG
or 2.17VPP (MARK), 0.688VPP (SPACE) AFNOR
(the AM signal can be distributed onboard to up to 4 outputs)

Antenna/Converter/Diplexer GPS Accessory
- Antenna/Converter Unit
- Preformed Cable
- Holder for Wall Mounting
- Clamps for Pole Mounting
- Ambient Temperature:
-40°C ... +65°C
GPS Antenna
Function: The GPS antenna includes the functional units planar antenna and post-connected
converter. This one translates the high-frequency phase-modulated spread spectrum
signal of the GPS system to a lower intermediate frequency. This way the connection with
the GPS clock can be made with a customary in trade coaxial cable (e.g. RG58) with up to
250 meters of length, without requiering an additional amplifier.
The satellites of the GPS system can only be received if there is no obstacle in the line-of-
sight from the antenna to the satellites. So the antenna/converter unit must be installed in
a location from which as much as possible of the sky is visible. Like the antenna/
converter unit itself, a plastic tube and holders and clamps for wall or pole mounting are
included in the scope of supply of any Meinberg GPS clock, to make this mounting
possible.
GPSAV4
Function: The GPSAV4 distributes the signal of a Meinberg GPS antenna/converter unit to up to four
Meinberg GPS receivers. The integrated amplifier avoids distribution dissipations. The
GPS receiver connected to the output no.1 is used to supply power to the GPSAV4, so this
output has to be connected steadily while the others can keep unconnected.
The diplexer is installed in a plastic case with five type-N female connectors for input and
outputs.

Frequency Deviation Monitor FDM509
Function: The module FDM509 was designed to calculate and monitor the frequency in 50/60Hz
power line networks. A preconnected reference is necessary that provides a high accura-
cy 10MHz frequency, a serial time string and a PPS (pulse per second). The module
calculates the frequency as well as the time, based on the mains frequency. The time
deviation of this calculated time (PLT) to the reference time (REF) is sent via serial
interface or via analog outputs provided by a DAC.
The board is equipped with a flash memory and a bootstrap loader which allows to
update the systems firmware via serial port.
