Online Midterm Exam Guides


Exam Schedule
Hong Kong Time

• 18 March 2020 (Wednesday)

• 08:00 – 09:00
• You should enter the Zoom Meeting Waiting Room at 07:45
and wait for the invigilator to check your student card
Exam Coverage
Two topics from Dr Ice Ko:

• “Energy, Matter & Resources in the Environment”

• “Earth’s Major Biomes”


Exam Format
• Exam Type: Open Book

• Question Type: Multiple Choice

Exam answers are based on the lecture content


(NOT internet content).
Live Proctored Online Exam using Zoom

Students complete the exam through Canvas, while


joining a Zoom meeting with their web cam ON
and mic available during the exam.
Joining the Zoom Meeting at the Exam

1. Log on to the Canvas Course Site and your own


section (L1 or L2).

2. Find ‘Zoom Meeting’


• 5 Zoom Meetings under each section
• Divided by surnames (please refer to the next 2 slides)
• For easier identification, please make sure your Zoom name
is the same as that in your HKUST student card

On the Day of the Exam - March 18 (Wednesday)

• All 10 Zoom Meetings under the exam will be available at 07:45

• You need to queue up at the Zoom Waiting Room


• Invigilator needs to check your Student ID card
(for those who have lost their student cards, please show your HKID card/passport)

• All students are expected to be ready in the Zoom Meetings by 08:00


• You need to enter your Zoom Meeting before 08:00, and wait for the
invigilator to check your student card
After Entering Your Zoom Meeting
You should read the following THOROUGLY and CAREFULLY

1) Exam Instructions

2) Honor Code Statements


• Why – You are expected to observe and uphold the highest standards
of academic integrity and honesty in all the work you do throughout
your study.
• You must CONFIRM the Honor Code Statements before the exam starts
(the Statements will be provided on spot)

The invigilator will announce to the group how to access the


exam paper and the start of the exam.
Ground Rules
• A reliable internet connection is necessary

• You should choose a physical location with minimum distractions

• For urgent situations (e.g. toilet break), you MUST obtain approval
from the invigilator to be away from the webcam

Your Zoom configuration

• Turn OFF the virtual background

• Turn OFF the microphone


• Note: The invigilator will unmute the entire group from time to time to check

• Turn ON the webcam with a proper position so that the invigilator can see your face

• Turn ON the speaker

• Use group chat only for making inquiries to the invigilator during the exam period

• Communication with anyone is NOT allowed during the exam


Key Reminders when Using Canvas Quizzes

• Avoid taking the quiz with multiple browsers

• There will be a timer shown in your screen when you are


doing the exam
• The timer will not pause if you exit the exam

• Make sure you submit the answers by clicking the “Submit”


button before the time is up.

• When time is up, all selected answers will be automatically


saved and submitted.
