Welcome to the Music (MAPEH 7) Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Music
of Cordillera, Mindoro, Palawan and the Visayas!

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both

learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their
personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.

Palawan and the Visayas, where several ethno-linguistic groups in the mountains
live.
Through the lesson, one will discover how natives express their feelings
toward each other and the environment, their history and their supernatural

What’s New
Vocal music is a genre of music performed by one or more singers, with or
without instrumental accompaniment, in which singing provides the main focus of the
piece. Music which employs singing but does not feature it prominently is generally
considered instrumental music as is music without singing. Music without any non-
vocal instrumental accompaniment is referred to as a cappella. Vocal music typically
features sung words called lyrics, although there are notable examples of vocal music
that are performed using non-linguistic syllables, sounds, or noises, sometimes as
musical onomatopoeia. Vocal music is probably the oldest form of music, since it does
not require any instrument besides the human voice. All musical cultures have some
form of vocal music. Characteristics of Vocal Music are:
 Melismatic - vocal passages which has one syllable sung to in several note
passages.
 Free meter - musical meter that has no time signature.

 Kulial - a lyrical poem expressing love
 Tultul - a vocal music about epic heroes chanted at night, ending at
daybreak.

 Bagit - music played on the kudyapi, showing rhythm. Movements and sound
of nature like rustling of leaves, running water, chirping of birds, monkey, and
snakes.

IV. MUSIC OF THE VISAYAS


A musical style of the Visayas is a song-and-dance debate between a man and
a woman known as balitaw. The theme is about love and marriage usually performed
by singers, dancers, and actors.
