Piccolo Fingering Tips

Tip 1: C# Fingering

Lowers the sharp C#2 and raises the low C#3.

“Should be practiced and used as a primary, not
alternate, fingering for piccolo.”
Jan Gippo, solo piccoloist, St. Louis Symphony

Tip 2: F#3 Fingering

Tip 3: G-A for piccolos with a split-E

“This trill needs a kick to get it started. Begin the

trill by fingering G3, then lift first finger left hand
and trill as shown.”
Morgan Williams

Tip 4: G-A trill for piccolos without a split-E

For piccolos without a split-E mechanism, kick

off with the G3 fingering.
