Lesson Plan in Grade 7

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
 Identify the composition of the atmosphere.
 Identify the layers of the atmosphere.
 Describe the feature of each layer.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

 Topic: The Atmosphere
 References: Science 7 Book (Learner’s Material, page 312-314,
Teacher’s Guide, page 300-303)
 Materials: Visual Aids, Pictures, Laptop, Speaker and Chalk.

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
- Prayer
- Greetings
- Attendance
- Review
- Motivation:
The teacher will present to the class a video clip about the
layers of the atmosphere, Afterwards, the teacher will ask what is
the video all about, and what they have learn from the video.
The teacher will also ask the following questions:
1. Why do kites fly?
2. Why do airplanes fly?
3. Do kites and airplanes have the same length of
distance to travel? Why?

B. Lesson Proper

I. ACTIVITY
The activity is entitled “Arrange me”, to do this the
teacher will group the students by pair or by triad and provide
the activity sheet. The students are task to paste/place the
picture in the given graph to where it should be properly place
base on the layers of the atmosphere.

II. ANALYSIS
In connection to such activity, the students will be ask
some questions which are as follows:
February 15, 2019

1. What are the layers of the atmosphere?

2. In which layer is temperature increasing?
3. In which layer is temperature decreasing?
4. Observed the graph. What is the basis for
the divisions of Earth’s atmosphere?
III. ABSTRACTION
The earth’s atmosphere is divided into layers. It is based
on temperature differences. There are five layers of the
atmosphere. The following are:
1. Troposphere
 Is the layer closest to Earth’s surface.
 The temperature just above the ground is
hotter than the temperature high above.
 Weather occurs in the troposphere
because this layer contains most of the
water vapor.
 Aircraft flying through the troposphere
may have a very bumpy ride.
2. Stratosphere
 Is the layer of air that extends to about
50 km from Earth’s surface.
 It is in this layer that we can found the
ozone layer (absorbs much of the Sun’s
harmful radiation that would otherwise be
dangerous to plant and animal life).
3. Mesosphere
 The layer between 50 km and 80 km
above the earth’s surface.
 Air in this layer is very thin and cold.
 Meteor or rock fragments burn up in the
mesosphere.
4. Thermosphere
 Is between 80 km and 110 km above the
Earth.
 Space shuttles fly in this area and it is
also where the auroras found.
 Auroras are caused when the solar wind
strikes gases in the atmosphere above
the poles.
5. Exosphere
 The upper limit of our atmosphere.
 this layer of the atmosphere merges into
space.

 Satellites are stationed in this area, 500

km to 1000 km from Earth.
