1. Management
Coastal Management
Since the mid 1980's, the City of Boca Raton has been monitoring and maintaining the City's
over 4.75 miles of shoreline through the construction of beach nourishment projects, proper
dune management practices, continuous dredging of the Boca Raton Inlet and land
preservation. The City has conducted 8 beach renourishment projects, four emergency
hurricane repair projects and 1 hurricane emergency dune repair project. Additionally, since
1972 when the City took over maintaining the Boca Raton Inlet, the City’s has dredged over 2.3
mmillion cubic yards of sand from the interior of the Boca Raton Inlet.
Upcoming Projects
North Boca Raton Beach Restoration Project
In late 2018, the City of Boca Raton received a letter from the United States Army Corps of
Engineers (USACE), a Division of the Department of the Army, indicating that the City's North
Boca Raton Beach Project Area was eligible for Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies
(FCCE) assistance due to the impacts caused by the passing of Hurricane Irma. The
construction of the North Boca Raton Beach Project Area would replenish the material lost from
the passing of Hurricane Irma, as well as material that had naturally eroded away since the
construction of the 2014 project. The construction costs associated with this project are being
fully funded by the USACE.

+ Quantity: Approximately 550,000 cubic yards of sand
+ Project location: Starting just North of Spanish River Boulevard and continuing south just
before Red Reef Park.
+ Project start date: Mobilization to the project site and dredging commencement is.
scheduled for late February to the middle of March 2020. Construction operations will occur
on a 24/7 basis until project completion
+ Project completion: The construction project is scheduled to be completed by April 30,
2020,
