Rationale of Grade 11 STEM Students in Pursuing an Engineering Degree

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to know the rationale of grade 11 STEM of Treston Senior High

School students in pursuing an engineering degree. Engineering is a profession that needed a

four to five years of studying engineering and has a wide range of fields. Some students are

compelled or have been affected by their relatives that is why they pursue a degree even thou

they do not want it. This study wants to know the personal and social reasons why grade 11

STEM of Treston Senior High School want to pursue an engineering degree. There are 10

participants involved in this study coming from Treston International College. The researcher

used pre-survey in terms of identifying the respondents if their qualified or not and interview to

gather information along with the respondents. The results show that jobs with higher salary are

more likely to be pursued. The results also show that some students are being affected by their

relatives for being there an inspiration and some students choose engineering as a degree because

it is there dream job. It is then concluded that students choose to pursue engineering degree

because of having a high salary, it is there dream job, and they are affected by their relatives.

Parents should be aware of their actions because it may affect their child decisions. For the future

researcher gather a lot more respondent and try to have a research on different schools.
