Effect Of Soda On Your Body

Americans are constantly on the go, therefore we all need easy solutions for what we eat and
drink to keep us going. A coke in the vending machine or with your cheeseburger sounds much
tastier than a water right? Plus it has caffeine so it will keep you going for a few more hours…
right? Wrong. Soda is simply toxic chemicals, over 30 grams of sugar, and water mixed
together.

1.   Sugar & Sodium. A single can of soda contains 44 grams of sugar. This can
skyrockets the blood sugar and causes an insulin reaction in the body. Eventually, this
can lead to diabetes or insulin resistance, weight gain, dehydration and other health
problems. Soft drink companies are the largest user of sugar in the country. The picture
below represents the amount of sugar in each drink. Still think that soda or juice in the
vending machine sounds better than the water?
 2. Dehydration. Because of the high sugar, sodium and caffeine content in soda, it
dehydrates the body and over a long period of time can cause chronic dehydration.

 3. Chemicals. Soda contains phosphoric acid, which interferes with the body’s ability to
absorb calcium and can lead to osteoporosis, cavities and bone softening. Phosphoric
Acid also interacts with stomach acid, slowing digestion and blocking nutrient
absorption. In diet sodas, a chemical called aspartame is used as a substitute for sugar,
and can actually be more harmful. It has been linked to an incredible amount of health
problems health problems and increase the risk of metabolic syndrome, which causes
belly fat, high blood sugar and raised cholesterol.

4. Weight Gain.  Calories from drinks including soda make up over 20% of the total
daily calories consumed by Americans, according to a 2004 article in the American
Journal of Preventive Medicine. Soda contains empty calories, with ZERO nutritional
value, which make you gain weight and become hungrier quicker. Researchers at the
University of Texas say artificial sweeteners can interfere with the body’s natural ability
to regulate calorie intake. This could mean that people who consume artificially
sweetened items are more likely to overindulge.

5. Acid. The amount of acid in soda is enough to wear away at the enamel of your
teeth, making them more susceptible to decay. In tests done on the acidity levels of
soda, certain ones were found to have PH levels as low as 2.5. To put that into
perspective, consider that battery acid has a pH of 1 and pure water has a pH of 7.
