Eating healthy and unhealthy

„You are exactly what you eat” – says the phrase wisely. It is uncontested that eating healthy
is important for everyone, especially for teens while they are growing, as a healthy diet is the
key to being fit and leading a healthy way of life. However, many people today don’t care
about their diet and make their own life harder and cause themselves illnesses such as heart
and digestive disease or overweight. It’s not easy to find the most appropriate diet on your
own, that’s why many experts and studies, for example the eating pyramid, helps you to live a
balanced life.
First of all, it is needed to eat vegetables and fruit every day as they provide vitamins, fibres
and minerals for your body. Healthy food also includes whole grains, dairy products and eggs
because they provide essential nutrients for you. Dairy products are particularly important
during the childhood as they help to strengthen your bones. Moving on, it’s undeniable that
the intake of meat and fish can’t be avoided, however, you have to take care of what kind of
and how much meat you eat. Besides they contain important carbohydrates, they also include
fats of which too much makes you overweight. Furthermore, if you eat plenty of sweets,
chocolates and food high in sugar and salt it will have a dangerous effect on your health so
you must reduce the amount of them. Last, but not least 60% of our body consist of water, so
it is the most essential nutrient for you. You must keep in mind, people can live only a few
days without water, even fewer in the summer, when the temperature is very high. You must
pay attention to keeping hydrated all the time.
In conclusion, eating healthy makes people live longer, helps to prevent diseases, a healthy
diet is the key to a happy, fit life, you will sleep better and it will be possible for you to work
better.
In my opinion my own diet definitely needs some improvements. Although I never skip any
meals and try to eat variously, I drink about 1 litre a day despite the suggested amount is 2-3
litres. I know that this is a terrible habit of mine but recently I have vowed that I will drink at
least 2 litres every day to keep my body hydrated. Over and above I should go to fast-food
restaurants less as fast-food contains many artificial ingredients, and eat less chocolate and
sweets as they ruin my teeth. To be honest, it’s hard to change this habit because there’s a
wide range of snacks in supermarkets and whenever I go shopping I always see something I’d
like to taste. Overall, my diet is more or less healthy but in the future I will pay attention to
what I eat much better.
