Тема: Фестиваль американської кухні


Мета завдання: вдосконалювати лексичні навички та навички вимови, читання й
сного мовлення; розвивати логічне мислення; виховувати правильне ставлення людей, а
акож до самого себе
Студенти повинні вміти: вести бесіду з даною темою правильно вживати лексичний
атеріал.
Студенти повинні знати: лексично – граматичній мінімум з вивчаємої теми

As you`ve already guessed, today we`ll continue to discuss the theme «National cuisine».
Today at the lesson we are going to decide what do American people like to eat.

II. Warm up

Each country has its own national dishes. Work with groups and think of food typical for
Ukrainians and Americans.
You will make a list of American dishes.
You will make a list of Ukrainian ones.

You know, it is very interesting to know, that many changes are taking place in
«food styles» in the United States. The United States is traditionally famous for its very
solid and unchanging diet of meat and potatoes. Now we have many different alternatives
to choose from: various ethnic food, health food, and fast food, in addition to the
traditional home-cooked meal.
I would like to add that ethnic restaurants and supermarkets are commonplace in the
United States. Because the United States is a country of immigrants, there is an immense
variety. Any large American city is filled with restaurants serving international cooking.
Many cities even have ethnic section: Chinatown, Little Italy, or Germantown. With this
vast ethnic choice, we can enjoy food from all over the world. This is a pleasant thought
for those who come here to travel or to work; they can usually find their native specialties.
Besides sections of the cities, there are regions which are well known for certain food
because of the people who settled there. For example, Southern California has many
Mexican restaurants, and Louisiana has a strong Creole accent to its food. (Creole is a
mixture of French, African, and Caribbean Island food).

a pancake consists of.
You need:
150 grammes of flour, 1 egg, 300 ml of milk, 2 table spoons of oil, a little oil for
frying pancakes, some sugar and 2 lemons

Americans eat a lot. They have three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Most of Americans don"t eat at home but prefer to go to res-taurants. They can
choose from many kind of restaurants. There is a great number of ethnic restaurants in the
United States. Italian, Chinese and Mexican food is very popular.
An American institution is the fast food restaurant, which is very convenient but not
very healthy.
However there are some principles of American cuisine (if we may call it so).
Americans drink a lot of juices and soda, eat a lot of meat, fruits and vegetables, not much
bread. In the morning Americans have cereal or scrambled eggs, milk or orange juice.
Chicken or fish, fried potatoes, vegetable salads, and desert: this is the most common
menu for lunch.
Dinner is probably the most important meal of the day, some people have family
dinner, when all members of family have to be there. For dinner Americans usually have
meat, fried or baked potatoes with ketchup or sour cream, corn, peas, sometimes macaroni
and cheese or spaghetti; ice-cream, fruit or cake may be for dessert.
Turkey, ham and apple pie are traditional for Christmas and Thanksgiving Day
dinners.
