WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOU?

First, it is necessary to clarify two concepts that, although closely
related, are often mistakenly taken as synonyms: climate change
and global warming. There is an important difference, and that is
that global warming is the cause of climate change, that is, the
increase in the temperature of the planet caused by emissions into
the atmosphere of greenhouse gases derived from human activity,
are causing variations in the climate that would not occur naturally.

CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE

The greenhouse effect is a natural process that allows the Earth to
maintain the conditions necessary to host life: the atmosphere retains part
of the Sun's heat; Without the greenhouse effect, the average
temperature of the planet would be 18ºC below zero.

The atmosphere is made up of various gases that, in the right proportion,

do their job. The problem is when human activities increase the emission
of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and it retains more heat than
necessary, causing the average temperature of the planet to increase and
what is popularly called global warming occurs.

OTHER EXAMPLES: GREENHOUSE GASES,

EXPONENTIAL POPULATION INCREASE,
DESTRUCTION OF LAND ECOSYSTEMS AND
DEFORESTATION, DESTRUCTION OF
MARINE ECOSYSTEMS, ETC.

CONSEQUENCES OF CLIMATE CHANGE

This global increase in temperature has disastrous consequences that
endanger the survival of the Earth's flora and fauna, including humans.
Among the impacts of climate change, the melting of the ice mass at the
poles stands out, which in turn causes the rise in sea level, which produces
floods and threatens the coastal shores - even small island states are at
risk of disappearance.

Climate change also increases the occurrence of more violent weather events,
droughts, fires, the death of animal and plant species, the overflowing of rivers
and lakes, the appearance of climate refugees and the destruction of livelihoods
and economic resources. especially in developing countries.

WHEN DID MAN BEGIN TO INFLUENCE CLIMATE CHANGE?.

Experts coincide in pointing to the Industrial Revolution as the turning point
at which greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere began to
skyrocket. It must be remembered that the Industrial Revolution was born
from many other small revolutions: agricultural, technological,
demographic, means of transport, finance ... which gave rise to a new model
of production and consumption.
Since that time, population growth (in 1750 there were less than 800 million
inhabitants on Earth, today we are more than 7,500 million)
Climate change
Climate change is a serious global problem. The
following are some statistics that everyone should
know to raise awareness.

416 parts per million

This is the concentration of carbon dioxide found
in our atmosphere in May 2021. It is the highest on
record in human history.

2010 = hottest decade

Average global temperatures in 2019 were 1.8 ° F
(0.98 ° C) warmer than the 20th century average.
According to NASA, that's how the hottest decade
on record ended.

11% of emissions
11% of global greenhouse gas emissions
were caused by deforestation.

Everything is in nature
Nature-based solutions are considered the most
effective in combating climate change, but they only
receive 3% of all climate finance.

It is time to take action.

Climate change is everyone's problem, as people begin to raise awareness
about this important problem, it will be possible to act in a way that is
beneficial for our development as a society and the sustainability of the
environment.
All the inhabitants of this planet, we are obliged to take measures to stop
climate change and the increase of the greenhouse effect. Although the
big decisions, taken by the governments of the countries, are fundamental,
there are many ways to help decontamination that are within our reach,
such as not using the vehicle unless necessary, saving water, not causing
fires, do not litter, etc.
