This week, we learned that Marine Sergeant Nicole (Herrera) Gee, a 2016 Oakmont High
School graduate was one of the 13 U.S. service members killed in an attack in Kabul,
Afghanistan.

Nicole has been described as a ‘model Marine’ who loved her job. While she was at
Oakmont, she played on the softball team and remained in contact with several of her
former teachers. Her death hits our school community, our city, and our nation at an
especially challenging time.

Nicole is a hometown hero. Her life and service to our country will never be forgotten.

In the coming days and weeks, our community will come together to honor her ultimate
sacrifice. Her family, husband, and friends remain in our hearts and prayers.

We encourage students and staff to lean on each other and support one another. Staff
and students can visit our Wellness Centers located on each of our campuses for
additional support.
