pedestrians and other drivers. The correctness of your driv­
ing decisions (such as knowing when to yield the right-of­
way) will also be evaluated.

is stopped with its lights flashing on your side of the road,
you must slow down and pass it with caution. You must

between your vehicle and the emergency vehicle or tow
truck if it is possible and safe to do so. If you violate this
law, you will be fined and gain three demerit points for a
first offence.
33. Failing to stop for a school bus that is unloading

Failure to stop for a school bus that is unloading passen­
gers will cost you 6 demerit points and a maximum fine
of up to $2,000.
34. If an accompanying driver is older than 22, their
blood alcohol level must be less than
0.05%.
A supervising driver must have his/her blood alcohol level
of less than .05%. (If this person is 27 or under, their blood
alcohol level should be zero).
35. If you are convicted for the first time of driving
while your licence is suspended, you will get an ad­
ditional six-month suspension, and you will also face

If you are convicted of driving while your licence is sus­
pended for an HTA offence, you will have to pay a fine of
$7,000 to $5,000 for a first offence. The court can order you
to spend up to six months in jail, or you may have to pay a
fine or do both. Six months will be added to your current
suspension as well.

limit allowed in cities, town, villages, and built-up

If your licence has been suspended for accumulating ex­
cessive points, you must surrender it either in-person at a
ServiceOntario Centre or by mailing it to the Driver Control

If police stop you for driving 50 km/h or more over the
speed limit, you will be charged with street racing. Po­
lice will suspend your licence on the spot and impound
your vehicle for 7 days. If convicted for the first time, you
will face penalties that include: $2,000 to $70,000 fine;jail
term of up to 6 months; licence suspension up to 2 years
or 6 demerit points.
70. You must report an accident to the police if
SOMEONE HAS BEEN HURT OR KILLED, OR
DAMAGE TO VEHICLES OR PROPERTY EXCEEDS
$2,000.
By law, you must report any collision to the police when
there are injuries or damage to vehicles or property ex­
ceeding $2,000.
