IELTS PLACEMENT TEST

The IELTS test is made up of four components.

 LISTENING: approximately 30 minutes

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.
Choose ONE of the following topics:

1. Economic progress is one way to measure the success of a country. Some people believe
there are other factors. What other factors should be considered? Which one do you think is
more important than the others?

2. Some people say children no longer need to develop handwriting skills. Others believe
that handwriting is still important. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

3. Some people believe it is better for children to begin to learn a foreign language at
primary school than secondary school. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

4. Nowadays big cities in many countries become overcrowded. Give some reasons and
solutions for this problem.

5. Most of the big cities are overpopulated. Why do people still move to big cities? Give
your opinion and examples.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example from your own knowledge or
experience.

Write at least 250 words.

- why you chose this restaurant
- what type of food you ate in this restaurant and explain why you enjoyed eating in this
restaurant

4. DESCRIBE A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO VISIT IN YOUR COUNTRY.


You should say:
- where it is
- how to get there
- what there is to do when you are there and explain why you recommend this place.

5. DESCRIBE A MEETING YOU REMEMBER GOING TO AT WORK,


COLLEGE OR SCHOOL.
You should say:
- when and where the meeting was held
- who was at the meeting
what the people at the meeting talked about and explain why you remember going to
this meeting.
