Case Study 6:

Dagupan Electric Cooperative, Inc.

SYNOPSIS/SUMMARY:

An electrical engineering student from MAPUA University named Chester Dimaculangan started
his first job at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). After ten years of handling
jobs in different units, he was promoted as a Chief Planning Officer. Three engineers and two
other employees were directly reporting to him. With his rated performance as very satisfactory,
training and seminars attended and a master’s degree in MBA, he got a nomination from
Dagupan Electric Cooperative, Inc. as a general manager. He took the opportunity and started
working regardless of its unresolved problems in the said company. Engineer Dimaculangan called
a meeting with the key officers and discussed certain issues to be resolved in the company. After
three days, he sites and recommends some solutions to the board of directors and was approved.
Despite these, no succeeding improvements were recorded in the services. He now thinks of any
other solutions considering that there are still some employees who are dedicated and qualified
for their jobs.

FINDINGS:
               Engineer Dimaculangan needs to understand the root cause of the issues before he could
provide a solution. He may consider the following:
 Have an open discussion with the employees regarding the current situation that the
company facing.
 Assess the current organizational structure especially his team if the employees were best
suited with their current roles.
 Try to have a connection with the employees or subordinates. Relationships that could
build trust and be more interactive in the different work along with the employees.
 Figure out why some employees are not motivated to report to work on time.
 Motivate them by sharing some experiences.
 Evaluate new suppliers who can be hired and replaced the current supplier to avoid
delays.

DISCUSSION:
       Providing the right solution for a certain problem is a challenging job. Figuring out first what
kind of problem to be fixed is an important role with this kind of process. With this kind of
organization, having a good relationship with your employees may create a healthy kind of
environment. Problems may be solved easily. The more number to think of a solution, the more
results they could get. Motivating your employees may help to increase the productivity of the
company’s services. There are different approaches on how to motivate your employees and
surely one of those would work. About the delays of requisition, they could find another supplier
that will commend the supplies on time. By these considerations, Engineer Dimaculangan may
resolve certain issues in DECI.

CONCLUSION:
       Engineer Chester Dimaculangan is a great engineer. His current problem may look hard to
handle but as an engineer, he must be aware of how to handle this kind of issue. The only thing
he could do is to find out what causes these existing problems in DECI. Considering those findings,
he could guarantee that the current issues they were facing may come to an end.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
       I suggest that he talks to his employees. Communication is the key they said and it is
significant in handling certain issues. Building a relationship with the employees is a good start
too to have a healthy environment in the workplace. In this way, conflicts could be avoided or
solve professionally. It may also result in a better performance of the company and may prioritize
the concerns of the constituents. About the delays of requisition, it is best if they could find
another supplier that will meet the delivery date on time.

IMPLEMENTATION:
       Engineer Dimaculangan may just schedule a meeting with the employees and discuss certain
issues in the company. Have an open discussion and consider every opinion and perspective of
individuals involved in the meeting. The more thinkers, the more solution they could get.
Implementing those suggested solutions may have a higher chance to solve the existing problems
that DECI’s company facing.
