IMPORTANT DO’S
• Your first priority should be your
safety and the safety of your
family.
• Also consider any elderly or
vulnerable neighbour and make
sure they are aware of the
situation.
• Stay alert and listen out for warnings
by radio (wind up or battery).
• Switch off all electrical and gas
appliances and turn gas and
electricity services off at the mains
(make sure you know where these
are and how to turn them off).
• Move important items to safety
(upstairs/as high as possible).
• Listen to the advice of the
Emergency Services and local
authorities. If you do stay in your
house, move upstairs in good time
but bear in mind that you may have
no power or water supply.
IMPORTANT DONT’S
• Do not walk through flood water. Flood
water is dangerous; six inches of fast
flowing water can knock a person over
and there may be hidden dangers such
as uncovered manholes or broken
glass. (If you must walk through
flood water, be VERY careful and use a
pole or stick to test the water).
• Do not swim through fast flooding water
- you may get swept away or struck by
an object in the water.

5. If outdoors, find a clear spot & drop to ground
until shaking stops.

1. If you’re caught in fire- Stop, Drop, & Roll.
2. Talk to children regularly about the dangers of
fire, matches lighters & keep them out of reach.
3. Install smoke alarms on every level of your
home, inside bedrooms & outside sleeping
areas.
4. Ensure that all household members know two
ways to escape from every room of your home.
5. If smoke, heat or flames block your exit routes,
stay in the room with doors closed. Place a wet
towel under the door & call the fire department.
Open window & wave a brightly colored cloth or
flashlight to signal for help.

1. Play with anything that can cause a fire.

2. Play with fireworks.

3. Run around when you are caught on fire.

4. Try to calm the fire down with water


because, it could make it WORSE.
