INFORMATION SYSTEM
The term "information system" refers to a collection of software, hardware, and telecommuni
cations networks that people create and use to collect, create, and transmit relevant data, prim
arily in corporate contexts. IS plays a vital role in enterprises, particularly in globalization,
digital economics, and digital organizations.

COMPONENTS OF IS:

HARDWARE: In modern information systems, this category includes the computer and all of
its supporting equipment. Equipment and machinery are examples of hardware.

SOFTWARE: In an information system, software refers to computer programs and the

manuals that accompany them. The machine-readable instructions tell logic in the system's
hardware to generate useful information from the data.

DATA: The raw material is organized, structured, and interpreted to create helpful
information systems.

PROCEDURES: It means rules which govern how an operation is performed in an

information system.

NETWORK : Network resources are telecommunication networks such as the intranet,

extranet, and internet. These resources help the organization's information flow. Networks are
made up of both physical devices like network cards, routers, hubs, and cables as well as
software like operating systems, web servers, data servers, and application servers.

HR : It is related to the amount of personnel necessary to run and administer the system.
People are the information system's end users; end users utilize the information generated for
their own purposes; the information system's primary goal is to benefit the end user.
Accountants, engineers, salespeople, consumers, clerks, and managers are examples of end
users. People are also in charge of developing and operating information systems. Systems
analysts, computer operators, programmers, and other clerical IS workers, as well as
managerial approaches, are among them.

Tactical managers utilize Management Information Systems (MIS) to monitor the
organization's present performance status. A transaction processing system's output is utilized
as input to a management information system.

The MIS system analyzes the data using routine algorithms, aggregating, comparing, and
summarizing the results to provide reports that tactical managers use to monitor, regulate, and
anticipate future performance.

Input from a point of sale system, for example, may be utilized to evaluate patterns of goods
that are performing well and those that are not. This information may be utilized to make
future inventory purchases, such as increasing orders for high-performing items and
decreasing orders for low-performing ones.

INTRODUCTION
Orient Electric Limited, earlier a division of Orient Paper and Industries Limited (OPIL), was
joined as Orient Paper Mills Ltd. in 1939. The CK Birla Group began Orient Paper with only
one paper machine at Brajrajnagar in Orissa, India. Orient Fans, the recent Calcutta Electrical
Manufacturing Company, turned into a piece of the CK Birla Group in 1954. Arrange
Electric created and protected the progressive PSPO (Peak Speed Performance Output)
innovation in mid 90's. The organization makes the Switchgear range at its assembling office
Orientd at Noida in the province of Uttar Pradesh. Arrange Electric gets demerged from
Orient Paper and Industries Limited (OPIL) into a different recorded substance, Orient
Electric Limited (OEL) on, November 9, 2017.

Components of Information System in Orient Electricals

Information system refers to an intergrated and combines set of components for collecting,
storing, and processing data and for providing information, knowledge, and digital products.
Orient has also relied on Information System to carry out and manage their functions such as
planning, organising, controlling, decision making, etc. Orient electricals are using
Information system which includes hardware and software to process the data collected from
customers and make further goals based on information.

1) Computer hardware

5|Page
Hardware are the external parts which an organization purchases to make it easy for
transferring information and running software. To carry on the matter of assembling,
gathering, changing, trading, purchasing, selling, bringing in sending out in Orient Electricals
Limited certain gear like amplifiers, enhancers, clocks, walkie talkies, cameras, tapes,
semiconductors, constructing agents and wholesaler, electronic flashguns, electronic
computerized products, microwaves, radio paging frameworks, PCs, scaled down circuits
merchandise, miniature modules, intercommunications sets, receivers, dictaphones, telecom
essentials, remote/lab/testing hardware, electronic buyer and homegrown products, melodic
and visual machines, device, instruments, gear and gadgets for delight and amusement are
required.

2) Computer software

The hardware is actually utilised by software giving commands in all hardware components.
The Software can be separated into two kinds: system programming and application
programming. The essential piece of framework programming is the working framework, like
Windows or iOS, which deals with the equipment's activity. Application programming is
intended for explicit errands, like dealing with an accounting page, making a report, or
planning a Web page. Orient Electricals depend on data innovation framework, including
information base administration programming and application frameworks, which are
overseen by outsider specialist co-ops. Any disappointment in data innovation frameworks
could bring about business interferences, remembering interruption for their stock
administration, harmed notoriety, and debilitating of their serious position.

3) Telecommunications

This segment interfaces the equipment together to shape an organization. Associations can be
through wires, for example, Ethernet links or fiber optics, or remote. The actual Internet can
be viewed as an organization of organizations. Orient electricals depend on their dispersion
organization and businesses to arrive at the end client and sell items in every one of the
districts in which they work through associating providers and retailers. Their business is
reliant upon keeping up with great associations with merchants and vendors and guaranteeing
that our wholesalers and sellers view our items to be monetarily profitable and have
proceeded with requests from clients. Orient has in excess of 1000 direct channel
accomplices spread across India with everyone associated with the principal worker of Orient

for keeping supplies unblemished. This organization of merchants and vendors has
empowered them to arrive at their clients in a proficient way in far-off business sectors.

4) Databases and data warehouses

This segment is the place where the "material" that different segments work with lives. A
data set is where information is gathered and from which it tends to be recovered by
questioning it utilizing at least one explicit standards. An information distribution center
contains the entirety of the information in whatever structure that an association needs. Data
sets and information distribution centers have expected considerably more noteworthy
significance in data frameworks with the rise of "enormous information," a term for the really
huge measures of information that can be gathered and investigated.

Orient electrical has set up call place offices for after-deals administration for their items,
upheld by experts who prompt clients on calls and on location. They likewise keep a client
relationship information base, which assists them with understanding the idea of
protests/issues. Their administration application empowers us to support our clients in a
consistent way Spare part the board is additionally a significant mainstay of after-deals
administration. they have an extra part the executives office in Noida, where different extra
parts are secured and afterward provided to various parts in India. Arrange has in excess of
300 approved assistance places in India. Their administration habitats are overseen by free
franchisees and their presentation is firmly checked and improvement activities are a
continuous cycle driven by officials of our Company.

5) Human resources and procedures

The last, and conceivably generally significant, segment of data frameworks is the human
component: individuals that are expected to run the framework and the techniques they
follow so the information in the immense data sets and information stockrooms can be
transformed into discovering that can decipher what has occurred previously and guide future
activity. With their retail-engaged methodology, we have set up Switchgear at a top notch
situating inside a brief timeframe. Their solid image, mechanical headway, broad assembling,
and deals power organization, has made a solid presence in these item classes. Their capacity
to create and supply differed items according to the changing necessities of the clients has

INTRODUCTION:
Polycab is India's top cable and wire maker and distributor, as well as a fast-growing player
in the fast-moving electrical goods (FMEG) company with a substantial export presence.
While our company was founded in 1996, it all started in 1964 with the foundation of Sind
Electric Stores, a modest electrical company. Over the years, we've grown and created a
strong presence in a wide variety of products, sectors, and countries.

POLYCAB IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AFTER COMPRAMISING THE

INFRASTRUCTURE THEY USED:

 Found that future growth plans were hampered by the limitations of its existing IT
infrastructure. Along with management and support issues.
 . Dealing with multiple vendors added
to the workload, which leaves the responsibility to decide whether we had a
server or a memory problem if something went wrong

INFORMATION SYSTEM IN POLYCAB:

Nestle uses the following Information system in its business operations to minimize the problems and
for increasing efficiency:

A. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

B. Supply Chain Management (SCM)
C. Distributor Management System
D. Automatic Storage and Retrieval System

ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING AND CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP

MANAGEMENT:

Another important unit in Polycab's IT infrastructure is the central ERP (Enterprise Resource
Planning) system, which handles several business processes.
"One of the big areas we've focused on is advanced automation. By taking our IT teams free

from operational tasks, we're encouraging them to develop an innovative mindset,".
The system also has several additional modules such as Advanced Pricing, Merchant
Incentives, Freight Management, Price Variation and the like, which have helped to improve
the efficiency of the company's processes.
The ERP platform implemented by the company is the Oracle EBusiness Suite, which can
also process backend applications such as dealer / employee portals, BI and other analysis
platforms.
"At the same time, we have also started to digitize every activity in our organization. With
the guiding principle of collecting data at the source, these data sources also need to be
interconnected so that data mobility is the central principle in the applications being
developed, he said.
More specifically, some of the different CRM systems implemented include one for
opportunity / opportunity management of wire, cable and project deals and another CRM for
FMEG products to manage the sales team, distributors for secondary sales and the link sales
team. for primary sale.
"All of this made it possible for our digital transformation for the DMS / retail platform, the
reseller portal and the customer service platform to be on track," In addition, additional
digital platforms such as an expense management platform and a human resources
management platform were used for employees.

The ERP platform has been updated over the years to provide accurate data and real-time
visibility.

BUSINESS NEEDS: Consolidation of mission-critical workloads immediately, as well as

long-term digital transformation based on cloud computing.

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT:

The organization's wire and cable business grew 35% to Rs 2,487 billion in the fourth quarter
of 2021, while FMEG grew 89% to Rs 347 billion. This was made possible in part by a
strong supply chain management system.
The supply chain helps monitor material usage at every stage of the manufacturing lifecycle,
which in turn has resulted in improved operational efficiencies at the plant level.
To this end, Polycab implemented Oracle's mobile supply chain application, which is
integrated with Oracle EBS.

9|Page
The supply chain solution uses barcodes and sensors and also enables handheld devices to
scan barcodes and carry out transactions on the go.
These handheld devices have made the manufacturing lifecycle from receiving materials to
Final shipping smoother.

CLOUD COMPONENT:

The current strategy is to take a cloud-native approach to any new application that is
deployed.
By implementing auto-scaling capabilities, the team was able to reduce QA instance and
test costs in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
The application has helped automate and digitize activities related to treasury management,
investment management, documentation and transactions.

DISTRIBUTOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:

This platform connects the company's internal systems with authorized dealers and
distributors to provide insights into secondary sales. It also automates all business operations
like inventory control, account management, process management, sales forecast analysis,
potential customer tracking system, among others.
This state-of-the-art software enables us to track sales from retailers to sellers through a
mobile application and ensure the effectiveness of the sales process. Managed and improves
the relationship between vendors and retailers. In connection with the Distributor
Management System, this tool is linked to the Reseller Billing Software, so that the orders
collected by the dealers in the mobile app are forwarded to the distributors and compliance
with them is tracked. This enables us to conduct our pre-order sales - Digitize activities. This
enables us to improve our productivity, improve the management of our customers and
significantly increase the response time and the exchange of information.

AUTOMATIC STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL SYSTEM:

The automatic storage and retrieval system; (ASRS) is a platform for optimizing the
production process and automating the replenishment of stocks at the dealers. This

INFORMATION SYSTEM MODEL OF ORIENT
ELECTRICALS: -

Information System Model for Orient Electricals limited. The Data is collected from
Customer and suppliers through older transactions and with the use of components of
information technology like software, hardware, and telecommunications. The collected data
is sent further to a different department with the use of information technology such as
processors, internet, and SQL datasheets. There are external users are also present who takes
the necessary information to be used by them. After the departments have received the
information they just forward it to the sales and purchase departments in order to help them
further taking the required decisions. This data includes data that is used to contact the
