1.Introduction
1.1 Introduction:

Energy audit is nothing but energy survey and examination of the total energy used in home.
The analysis is to provide a relatively simple method of determining not only how much energy
is being consumed but where and when. The energy audit will identify deficiencies in operating
procedures and in physical facilities.

Once these deficiencies have been identified, it will be apparent where to concentrate efforts
in order to save energy.

The energy audit is the beginning of and the basis for an effective energy-management
programme.

1.2 Conducting the Energy Audit:

In order to audit energy consumption, several steps are necessary. The basic procedures to be
followed are:

Step 1: Collect last month electricity bill of your home, LPG consumption data.

Step 2: Calculate average energy use and analyse pattern of energy use.

Step 3: Try to figure out where and when the energy was wasted.

Step 4: Do financial evaluation and determine the most cost-effective option.

Step 5: Suggestions and impact of using renewable energy devices

2.Analysis of electricity consumption:

Table 1: Units & Cost of Bill,2021

S. No Months Units Cost of Bill
(in rupees)
1 June 535 3680

2 May 406 2530

3 April 270 1403

2.1 Appliances for Audit:

• Bulbs
• AC
• Fan
• TV(LED)
• washing Machine
• Fridge
• Clothes Iron
• Electric Kettle
• cooler
• Geyser
• Laptop
• Tube Light
• Water purifier
• Computer

2.2 Reasons For variation in electricity consumption:

After Analysing last 3 months data there is variation in electricity consumption because of
following reason.
• At the end of April, we bought washing machine, Due to that energy consumption
increased from 270 units to 406 Units
• At the end of May we bought another appliance for cooling purpose, which increased
energy consumption from 406 units to 535 units.

2.3 Observations:
The largest share of power consumption by fans, bulbs and AC, because of following reasons:

• Fans and Bulbs are necessary electrical appliances present in all households
• Highly affordable in terms of cost
• Due to Temperature conditions these appliances are highly used to maintain
comfortable and good working conditions.

3.Recommendation Electricity consumption
3.1 Recommendations without Investment:
According to the table-2, I suggested best saving tips by which we can save energy and tariff
without any investment by proper utilization. The tips are following
• To avoid no load losses of any appliances, switch off them when devices are not in
use.
• Clean dust on bulbs so that we can get more lighting
• Clean the fans regularly as heavy coat of dust in fan blades reduces motor efficiency
and output
• Run the washing with full load
• Use the refrigerator and AC according to the climatic conditions
• Minimize ironing by using appropriate position for thermostat.
• Don’t Iron nights using clothes
3.2 Recommendations with Investment:
3.2.1. Bulbs: Replace 100 w incandescent lamps with 10 w LED bulbs by which we were
getting shifted from 72 units to 7.2 units with investment of 1200 rupees.
3.2.2. Cooler: By reducing the working hours of a cooler from 5 to 3 we can save up to 15
units energy.
3.2.3. Computer: By changing 240-watt computer with 24-watt laptop by which we were
getting shifted from 36 units to 3.6 units.
3.2.4. Installation of solar PV panel for 600 units per month:
For 600 units of energy, we need 5KW solar PV system which will cost 4,85,000/- (including
battery) according to loom solar company.
Payback period:
Let us take average monthly electricity bill is 3500/-
For annual electricity bill is 3500*12=42000/-
Payback years=485000/42000
=12 years.
Annually we can save up to 7200 units of energy.

4.Analysis LPG Consumption
4.1 LPG Consumption:
Monthly we consume two 14.5 kg LPG cylinder which is having calorific value of 55000
KJ/Kg
Monthly Energy consumed for Cooking is 1.595 MJ which costs around Rs.1800/-.
4.2 Recommendations for LPG consumption:
We can get 1.595 MJ energy from 25 kg biogas. For installing 25 kg bio gas we need to kitchen
waste bio digester which costs around Rs.1,00,000/-.
And we also we need biogas stove which costs around Rs.2000/-.Total we need to invest
1,02,000/-
Pay Back period:
Number of years=1,02,000/ (1800*12)
=5(apro.)
