SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Programme: PGDM
Batch: 2020-2022
Term: 3
Course Name: Supply Chain Management – OPS 5005
Credits: 2 (20 Hours)
Course Instructors: Prof. Sayan Mukherjee (Core) & Prof. Vasanth Kamath (Core)

PART 1
INTRODUCTION
For businesses to survive and compete, they need to provide the right product and service at
the right place at the right time and at the right price. The basic purpose of a supply chain
(SC) is to match supply with demand. With the ever-increasing complexity of customer needs
and demands, almost no organization can meet the customer’s demand solely by itself. There
is always a need to work and collaborate with other organizations for this purpose. Today the
organizations do not compete against each other, but supply chains compete against one
another. Hence all members of the supply chain should collaboratively work to match supply
with demand.
The course focuses on effective SCM practice and various key issues in supply chain
management, emphasizing SCM performance, SCM drivers, appropriate inventory
management, logistics/transportation and supply network design, and coordination in SCM.

COURSE OBJECTIVES (CO)

The course would help students in:
• Understanding strategic role of supply chain.
• Understanding the drivers of supply chain performance.
• Understanding the challenges of logistics/transportation/network planning and
managing supply chains in India.
• Developing capabilities for analytical analysis of supply chains.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)
By virtue of the learning gained in this course, the student should be able to:
CLO1: Demonstrate the understanding of the basics of supply chain management in a variety
of business context (PLG1)
CLO2: Demonstrate understanding of different modeling techniques used to match supply
with demand (PLG2)
CLO3: Understand the linkages of different stakeholders and functions used in managing a
supply chain (PLG3)

COURSE CONTENTS
• Strategic fit in supply chain
• SC drivers and metrics
• Designing supply chain networks
• Aggregate planning in supply chain
• Sales and operations planning
• Co-ordination in a SC

POLICY ON PLAGIARISM:
Plagiarism of any kind and to any extent would attract penalties. The assessment would be
‘zero’ for that particular component, with no further opportunity to improve. Repetition of
