 The word of “multimedia” was coined in the beginning


of 1990s
 Multimedia now combines different fields of research
and industry to provide practical solutions that are used
on a wide scale today
 Characteristics:
 Digital: text, audio, video,…
 Voluminous: size of data is a combination of video, audio,..
 Network – oriented: faster, wider, and lower cost
 Interactive and immersive
 Intelligence, high performance and software evolution
