Managerial Functions
The HR manager is basically a manager and as such must perform the basic functions
of management which are as follows:
1. Planning:
Planning is the determination of anything in advance of the action. It involves
scanning of the external and internal environment, setting up of goals and
objectives, preparing an action plan to achieve these objectives/goals, procedures,
allocating resources.
2. Organizing:
After plans have been developed and the course of action determined, organizing
is next in order. The process of organizing is essential for accomplishing the
objectives of the enterprise.
3. Directing:
Having a plan and an organization to execute it, the next step is getting the job
done. The management is required to lead, guide, motivate, supervise,
communicate and inspire them towards improved performance.
4. Controlling:
Controlling is a very important function of management. In an undertaking, control

consists in verifying whether everything occurs in conformity with the plan adopted,
the instructions issued and the principles laid down. In this way, controlling is a
measuring and corrective device.
Operative Functions
Operative functions are performed by the human resource manager continuously and
regularly. Its nature is like a routine type .The Operative functions are as follows:
3. Motivation:
Employees work in the organization for the satisfaction of their needs. In many of
the cases, it is found that they do not contribute towards the organizational goals
as much as they can. This happens because employees are not adequately
motivated.
4. Separation:
Since the first function of human resource management is to procure the
employees, it is logical that the last should be the separation and return of that
person to society. Most people do not die on the job.
6. Remuneration:
Remuneration is the compensation an employee receives in return for his or her
contribution to the organization. Remuneration is concerned with needs,
motivation and rewards. Managers, therefore, analyses and interpret the needs

7. Reward systems:
Reward systems exist in order to motivate employees to work towards achieving
strategic goals which are set by entities. Reward management is not only
concerned with pay and employee benefits.
Scheduling work and labour: work is allocated as per capabilities of labour and
demands of production. This function even assesses future demands and needs of
change to plan supply of labour or enrichment of their talent to fulfil objective of Pret A
Manger.(Watson,2013)
Recruitment and Selection: when future demands are predicted and internal capacities
are assessed then recruitment planning is made to fill in shortage. Thus this function
acquires best talents as per potential roles to satisfy purposes of Pret A Manger.
Salary and Appraisal: compensation is designed according to skill and job description
therefore Pret A Manger obliges employee contribution with standardized payment and
benefits like bonus. Additionally, depending on performances employees are rated for
appraisals like promotions, salary revisions etc. This keeps employees satisfaction and
growth needs fulfilled which is necessary to achieve goals of business. (Watson, 2013)

Introduction:
Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational technology company with
headquarters in Redmond, Washington. It develops, manufactures, licenses,
supports, and sells computer software, consumer electronics, personal
computers, and related services.
Its best known software products are the Microsoft Windows line of operating
systems, the Microsoft Office suite, and the Internet Explorer and Edge web
browsers. Its flagship hardware products are the Xbox video game consoles and
the Microsoft Surface lineup of touchscreen personal computers.
Microsoft ranked No. 21 in the 2020 Fortune 500 rankings of the largest United
States corporations by total revenue;[3] it was the world's largest software
maker by revenue as of 2016.[4] It is considered one of the Big Five companies in
the U.S. information technology industry, along with Google, Apple, Amazon,
and Facebook.
Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on April 4, 1975, to
develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800. It rose to dominate the
personal computer operating system market with MS-DOS in the mid-1980s,
followed by Microsoft Windows.

tablets, gaming and entertainment consoles, phones, other intelligent devices, and
related accessories, that integrate with its cloud-based offerings.
Microsoft also design and sell hardware devices including Surface RT and Surface Pro,
the Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment console, Kinect for Xbox 360, Xbox 360
accessories, and Microsoft PC accessories.
The company is planning to upgrade its Mountain View, California, campus on a grand
scale. The company has occupied this campus since 1981. In 2016, the company bought
the 32-acre campus, with plans to renovate and expand it by 25%. Microsoft operates
an East Coast headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company opened its retail
location on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The location features a five-story glass

storefront and is 22,270 square feet. As per company executives, Microsoft had been on
the lookout for a flagship location since 2009.
Geographic Reach:
Based in Redmond, Washington, Microsoft's sales are split between the US, which
accounts for about 50% of revenue, and other countries, which provide the balance of
sales. . Geographically, Microsoft's revenue is evenly split between the US and the other
countries.
Microsoft is one of the world's leading technology companies with products .Microsoft's
customers range from consumers and small businesses to the world's biggest companies
and government agencies
The company also has offices in India, China, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, and
the UK.
