( Thành ngữ về số lượng)

1. A lot of, lots of, many, much: (nhiều)
a. A lot of, lots of + N/Ns ( được trong câu khẳng định)
Ex: - He has a lot of / lots of friends here.
- We need a lot of / lots of time to learn a foreign language.
b. Many, much: dùng trong câu phủ định và câu nghi vấn
- MANY + Ns --> How many+ Ns ….? : Bao nhiêu ..?
- MUCH + N --> How much + N….. ?
Ex: - There aren’t many people living here.
- Does the newspaper have much information?
 VERY, SO, TOO, AS + Many, much :
Ex: - Very many crimes go unreported.
- We had so many exercises to do.
- There is too much salt in the soup.
- He hasn’t got as much patience as I thought.
2. A few, a little / few, little: (một vài, một ít / (rất) ít)
a. A few, a little: dùng với nghĩa xác định
- A few + Ns /- A little + N
Ex: We’ve got a little bacon and a few eggs.
b. Few, little: dùng với nghĩa phủ định ( NO)
- Few + Ns /- Little + N
Ex: - Few people can say that they always tell the truth.
- There is little sugar in my coffee.
3. A large number of, a great deal of/a large amount of: (số lượng lớn)
a. A large numer of = many + Ns
Ex: He has a large number of English books.
A number of + Ns + V ( số nhiều)
The number of + Ns + V (số ít)
Ex: A number of students are studious.
b. A great deal of = a large amount of = much +N
Ex: A dishwasher uses a great deal of electricity.
4. All, most, some, any, no: + N / Ns
Ex: All rabbits love green food. -My brother likes all music.
Most students love football. -Most pollution can be avoided.
I’ve just bought some books. -Would you like some beer?
She didn’t have any friends. - Have you got any wood?
We have no Sundays free. -I have no time to talk to you.
 SOME :dùng trong câu khẳng định và câu hỏi (Lời yêu cầu).
 ANY : dùng trong câu phủ định và câu hỏi.
Ex : Would you like some milk ?
Notes : - Something /anything / eveything /nothing
-Someone /anyone /everyone /noone
-somebody /anybody / eveybody/ nobody,
( Dùng với động từ ở số it )
5. All of, most of, some of,… + ( the, my, his,her, this,these, those, …) + N / Ns
Ex: Most of my students like English. / Some food is delicious.
Không dùng the, my, his,her, this,these, those,….. khi đứng trước đại từ: (us/you/them/it)
Ex: Some of you have made carelecss mistakes in your tests.
6 Every, each, both, either, neither:
a. Every, each + N ( mỗi , một )
 Ex: - Every/Each room has a number.
- Each day seems to pass very slowly. (từng ngày)
b. Each /One of + the/these/those/my/her/our… + Ns : Mỗi một / một trong những )
Ex: Each of the students has a personal computer.
One of us has our own desk.
c. Both, either, neither + OF + the/these/those/my/her/our… + Ns
Ex: - Both of his parents are from Europe.
- You can read either of the books.
- Neither of the cars is/are very economical to run.
d. Both, either, neither + OF + đại từ tân ngữ (us/you/them)
Ex: Both of us were tired.
