LECTURE 1: ANALOGY OF SYSTEM PROTECTION WITH FUNCTIONING OF A HUMAN BEING

CURRENT TRANSFORMER – The CT can function similarly to an ear, thus, a CT steps down or steps up an
upcoming current. Current in this example can be a sound, that if human hears it, It then send signals to
the brain, hence also sends accordingly to the level of sound receive by the ear.

POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER - The PT can function similarly to an eye (colored grey),, PT as the similarly to
CT, steps up or steps down to be receive by the transformer. This potential in an eye can see can be
described as a thing approaches the human body, the vision of the thing the human eye saw, are then
sent to the brain, accordingly to it size, quantity, and color.
RELAY – The relay of a system protection can also be defined as the brain of a human body, thus it
receives signals from the CT and PT or both the eyes and ears the feeds on information, and then makes
a reaction or an interaction dependent on what the brain receive, this can be sought by hearing and
seeing a train coming towards you, suppose that you are on the trail tracks, when the eyes and ears or
the CT and PT feeds of the information, the brain or relay will make the body move away from the train
tracks by using the human’s legs, similarly, when a relay receives a fault, and then trips of for the safety
of the system, and dependent on the type of relay, it can automatically be resolved, as per fault severity.

CIRCUIT BREAKER – A circuit break acts like an overcurrent protection device the disconnects a contact
when overcurrent occurs. It has fixed contact and the moving contact that separates when overcurrent
occurs. This can also be analogous to the legs and hand of human body; thus, the hand and the leg of a
human body can be sought as moving contact, and suppose that an fixed contact. When the hand
touches a hot object, it will a move, because a signal is being send to the brain indicating the its to
dangerous for the hand to handle, and also when the leg are being tired out of running/walking it will
send a signal to the brain that it is being exhausted, thus a reaction of resting the legs will happen.
