Experiment No.2
Aim: To measure the pressure with the help of dead weight tester.
Procedure:

1. Initially keep the spindle of screw pump totally out of cylinder by rotating
screw pump handle anticlockwise.
2. Open the needle valve below pressure gauge and close the needle valve below
oil.
3. Placed a weight on the weight carries and slowly turn the screw pump handle
clockwise this increases the pressure in the system which will be shown in
pressure gauge note that the pressure exerted due to weight carrier is
0.5kg/m2.
4. When we rotate the screw pump handle clockwise slowly at the same time
rotate lock nut by hand to avoid friction effect.
5. Keep turning the handle unit the weight carrier rises by about 3 to 4mm. If
the weight carries is lifted beyond the above limit the piston may shuffle
damage.
6. Take the reading of pressure gauge as soon as the weight carrier rises. Write
it down against the value of sum of making of the weight and weight carrier.
7. Rotate the handle anticlockwise before taking next reading.
8. Progressively add weights and take the readings as above.
9. When the maximum readings has been taken, reduce the pressure by turning
the handle anticlockwise and reducing the weight progressively.

Observation Table:
SR NO Applied weight (in kg/m2) Pressure gauge reading (in kg/cm2)

1 5 25

2 9 65

3 14 135

4 20 230

5 24 250

Conclusion:
The pressure with the help of dead weight tester gives the pressure of vacuum
calibrated to points hence we have verified the actual reading with theoretical
reading hence the load the load weight tester is stable due to linearity in reading.
