GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

At the end of the lesson students should:

 Outline the use of hand tools in electrical installation field. In addition they will be able to store
hand tools correctly and undertake general maintenance of hand tools.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson students should be able to:

Knowledge
 Define terms: hand tools, equipment and specialty tools” related to the electrical industry.
 State three(3)differences between tools and equipment based on PowerPoint presentation
 Classify electrical tools into the following:
 Give at least four (4) examples of the following classifications of tools:
 Give at least five (5) examples of common hand tools used in electrical installation.
 State at least three(3) types of materials from which most electrical tools are made
 State two (2) importance of using high quality tools in performing electrical installation jobs.
 Explain two (2) benefits of choosing the right tool for the correct job.
 State two benefits of checking tools for faults before, during and after usage.
 Define terms: maintenance and maintenance schedule.
 Explain the importance of caring and maintain hand tools.
 Explain the importance of making regular checks/tests on tools as part of the maintenance
procedures.
 List the main factors to be considered in the care and maintenance of tools.

 Select tools from each of the four (4) categories completing electrical installation work safely
i. Measuring and marking out tools
ii. Cutting and stripping tools
iii. Driving and striking tools
iv. Specialty tool
 Use hand tools in accordance with standard procedure given a task
 Carry out routine maintenance on the correct storage of tools in accordance with OH&S.

 Reliability in using hand tools correctly – Adhere to the procedures to use hand tools

 Appreciate the importance of planning and organizing preparation activities to use hand tools
