After a thorough informed consent, the mother was agreed to have surgery for her
baby. The baby was hospitalized and undergone a posterior fossa membrane removal
and shunting operation.  The CSF collected during operation was clear and colorless and
had no abnormalities on laboratory examination.

During hospitalization, the paediatrician also did a complete work to find any
abnormality involving other systems and found none. Five days after that he was
discharged from the hospital.

1. What is the prognosis of this child?

EPILOQUE

The child is 3 years-old at present and has been regularly accompanied. His head
circumference is enlarging in the normal range, and his development is considered
adequate to the expected. A CT scan of the brain showed normal-sized ventricles with
the shunt catheter in place. Examination revealed no clinical evidence of increased
intracranial pressure.

He remained well at follow-up, and when examined at the age of 36 months, he was


walking independently without neurological abnormality.
