Para Cycling

History

Para-cycling made its Paralympic debut at New York


Games in 1984.

Para-cycling is open to athletes with a physical or visual


impairment.
Equipment

There are 4 types of bikes:

Tandems Tricycles

Handcycles Standard bikes


Equipment

Helmet: Athletes must wear a hard shell protective helmet.

Clothing: Athletes can compete in a skinsuit or t-shirts with


padded cycling shorts.
Events - Road Cycling

Athletes compete on a tandem bike, standard bike,


tricycle or handcycle.

Road cycling takes place on public roads, which are


closed to traffic.

Road events – Road Race, Time Trial


Events - Track Cycling

Athletes use a tandem or standard bicycle.

The velodrome has two straight sides and two curved ends.

Track events – Time Trial, Individual Pursuit, Team Sprint,

Australian Para Cyclists

9 cyclists have been selected to represent the Australian


Olympic Team for Tokyo.

8 road cyclists and 1 track cyclist.
