INTRODUCTION

AutoCAD is a commercial software application for 2D and 3Dcomputer-aided design (CAD)

and drafting — available since 1982 as a desktop application and since 2010 as a mobile
web- and cloud-based app marketed as AutoCAD 360. Developed and marketed by
Autodesk, Inc.,[1] AutoCAD was first released in December 1982, running on microcomputers
with internal graphics controllers.[2] Prior to the introduction of AutoCAD, most commercial
CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator
(user) working at a separate graphics terminal. AutoCAD is used across a wide range of
industries, by architects, project managers, engineers, designers, and other professionals. It is
supported by 750 training centers worldwide as of 1994.

As Autodesk's flagship product, by March 1986 AutoCAD had become the most
ubiquitous CAD program worldwide. As of 2014, AutoCAD is in its twenty-ninth generation,
and collectively with all its variants, continues to be the most widely used CAD program
throughout most of the world.
1) PARTS OF AUTO CAD

Auto cad divide in three parts according to working:-

A. 2D
B. Advance commands/Productivity tools.
C. 3D

A. 2D ( 2Dimension )

In this section we come to know how to draw 2D drawing in auto cad

2D means two dimensional objects. In 2D we show only twodimensions Xand Y
dimension

B. Advance commands/Productivity tools.

By using these commands you will create better designs more faster. In this section you
will learn how to create your own objects library in Auto CAD. You can use these tools
with 2D and 3D both sections of AUTO CAD.

C. 3D (3Dimension)

3D means three dimensional, i.e. something that has width, height and depth. Our
physical environment is three dimensional and we move around in 3D every day

There are three axes in 3D X ,Y , Z

2) WORK SPACES OF AUTO CAD

A. Drafting and Annotation

B. 3D Basics
C. 3D Modeling
D. Auto cad Classic

3) POINT FIXING METHODS IN AUTO CAD

A. Absolute Co- ordinate system.

B. Relative Co- ordinate system.

@X ,Y

C. Relative Polar Co- ordinate system.

B. Center Diameter

C. 3Point Circle C+Enter+3P

D. 2Point Circle C+Enter+2P

E. TTR (tangent, tangent, radius) C+ Enter+ TTR

F. TTT (tangent, tangent, tangent)

Fig.2) Types of Circles

Difference between tangent circle and center circle:

Center circles are drawn by the use of center point and specific radius or
diameter. Tangent circles are based on the tangent objects which are required
to draw specific circles.
Fig. 2.)A Different circles

2.) Arc
Arc is basically a part of a circle which means whenever we has to create an arc it will come
as the part of circle. Basically arc is drawn by a center point and specific radius with
appropriate end points. But in AutoCAD there eleven types of arc which have different
specific inputs regarding their use. Every type of arc is drawn by different method or
technique.

Types of Arc:-
 3 Point
 Start Center End
 Start Center Angle
 Start Center Length
 Start End Angle
 Start End Direction
 Start End Radius
 Center Start End
 Center Start Angle
 Center Start Length
 Continue

Fig.3) Types of Arc

3.) Rectangle
In AutoCAD rectangle is technically known as Corner Rectangle, where we use two
specific corners (lower left corner, upper right corner, etc.) to create a rectangle.

Fig. 4) Rectangle with corners

4.) Ellipse
Ellipse is an oval shape structure which is made of two circles of same center point. There are
three types of ellipse which are:

a.) Center Ellipse

b.) Axis End Ellipse
c.) Elliptical Arc
Fig.5) Types of Ellipse

Use of Ellipse Command:-

Fig. 4) a) Ellipse of two shapes

5.) Trim
Trim is basically a command for cut a part of an entity. It is a very useful command. It is
valid only where the intersection occurs between two entities.

Fig.6) Use of Trim Command

6.) Fillet

Fillet command is used create round corners with specific radius.

Fig.6) Use of Fillet Command

7.) Array
Array is a command used for making number of copies with least of time. Three types of
array is shown below:

a.) Rectangular Array

Fig.7) Inputs for Rectangular Array

Fig.8) Working of Rectangular Array

b.) Polar Array

Fig.9) Use of Polar Array

10.) Copy:-

Fig.10) Use of Copy Command

11.) Move

12.) Rotate

Rotate command is basically used to give rotation to the object at some

angle. In this command a base point and a specific angle of rotation is
required. The base point is considered as a fix point in this command rather
than the pick point in like other commands.
Fig.11) Use of Rotate command

13.) Scale

Scale command is used for scaling the dimensions of object in the terms of
ratio.
Fig.12) Use of Scale command

14.) Stretch
Fig.13) Use of stretch command

15.) Block

This command is used to save an object temporarily with the use of pick
point.
16.) Mirror:-
Mirror command is used for creating a copy of object in opposite shape.

3D Modelling :-
3D Modelling is the next schedule of AutoCAD software where we can draw the three
dimensional designs. One can switch to 3D modelling from drafting & annotation by
selecting it from workspace switching bar.
Fig.21) Workspace Switching

View Controls :-
There are number of views in the software. One can choose different view in View Control
Bar as per the requirement. The views are :

 Top
 Bottom
 Left
 Right
 Front
 Back
 SW Isometric
 SE Isometric
 NE Isometric
 NW Isometric
Fig.22) View Control

Visual Styles :-
Visual Style is mainly used for the different types of views. Normally in the drafting &
annotation workspace we used the 2D wireframe visuals. In 3D modelling there are number
of visual types available.

Fig.23) Visual Style Manager

Extrude Command :-
Extrude basically the first third dimensional command in 3D modelling. It gives the third
direction/dimension to a two dimensional sketch.

Fig.24) Use of Extrude Command

Loft Command:-
In loft command we can draw a three dimensional design by using diffrerent sketches at
different heights.
Fig.25) Sketches at heights

Fig.26) Use of Loft Command

Revolve Command:-
In revolve command the round/cylindrical shapes can be drawn.
Fig.27) Use of Revolve Command

Sweep Command:-
Sweep command is used when we have a specific sketch(profile) and a specific path. Path is
being converted into a solid section by using the shape of sketch.
