What is the role of indigenous science in the development of science and technology in the
Philippines?

Throughout history, Indigenous peoples have been responsible for the development of
many technologies and have substantially contributed to science. Indigenous science
incorporates traditional knowledge and Indigenous perspectives, while non-Indigenous
scientific approaches are commonly recognized as Western science. Together, they contribute
substantially to modern science.

How do society and culture influence the development of science and technology?

Technology and science is more often influenced by culture and economic development.
A society with a good culture and economic development develops in every aspect very rapidly.
The growing and changing economic status is a sign of development in science and technology.
A society with developed culture needs a lot more technology in order to cop up with other
states, society, and country. So "necessity" is what that urges the presence of science and
technology is must in these revealed areas while setting up any kind of business.

1. Asian Institute of Management and other schools are offering Data Management and
Artificial Intelligence Applications

Pros (with negative impact)

Many people already use artificial intelligence (for example, Google and other search
engines).So it is a great help to us especially to the students nowadays and it helps people to
enhance our knowledge and skills.

Cons (with positive impact)

2. DICT and DOST is studying the use of 5G to speed up internet connectivity and ease
traffic for instance.

Pros (with negative impact)

5G will bring faster connection faster speed to upload and download photos, videos, and other
files, as well as reduced delay in sending online messages or making online phone and video
calls.

The new network, called 5G, promises to give faster speeds and a higher capacity for the use of
more devices. 

Cons (with positive impact)

The 5G network will inevitably cause a large increase in energy usage among consumers, which
is already one of the main contributors to climate change. 
 3. There are current new technologies being implemented in the agriculture sector. High
yielding fruits and crops are being pursued such as F1 hybrid seeds. There are new
intelligent farming equipment to increase the field productivity such as WR-801 Multi-
function Hand Tractor.

Pros (with negative impact)

Intelligent farming equipment is a big help for farmers to increase their field productivity. For
example the WR-801 Multi-Function Hand Tractor that can do the job of ten people at once.
The machine can perform weeding, double-row tilling for fertilizer application, rotavation and
furrow forming for corn fields and vegetable plots. And Food becomes more affordable to the
consumer as it costs less to produce.

Cons (with positive impact)

Limits or destroys the natural habitat of most wild creatures, and leads to soil erosion.

4. DOST is initiating a Space Agency implementing rules and regulations. Soon there will
be programs associated with the use of space for science and technology.

Pros (with negative impact)

The space program of the Philippines is currently decentralized and is maintained by

various agencies under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). In 2019 the
Philippine government passed the "Philippine Space Act" (Republic Act 11363) which
would see the unification and centralization of space research and development under
the newly created Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA). 

Cons (with positive impact)

 Subways - EDSA from Balintawak to NAIA and Guadalupe to Ayala.
 DOST is initiating a Space Agency implementing rules and regulations. Soon there will be
programs associated with the use of space for science and technology.
 The Office of the President is supporting efforts by DOST to train more scientist and
improve its facilities.
 There are also acquired technology in the newly purchased frigates in the use of Combat
Management System. There will be various training of navy personnel handling such new
technology.
