Furnish and install fire dampers at ducts penetrating fire resistant walls and

at all locations as indicated, required and/or herein specified. Fire dampers

shall be labelled by the Underwriters Laboratories and shall meet the

requirements of the current edition of NFPA Pamphlet No. 90A or approved

equal. Fire dampers shall be constructed and installed as follows:

Fires damper shall be installed where ducts pass through fire walls or area
separation walls. Dampers shall be installed at the fire wall and shall be Comply

design to securely hold the damper sections and blade linkage hardware.
Furnish and install backdraft dampers where indicated on the Drawings.
Each damper shall be sized as indicated on the Drawings and shall be
suitable for installation in the mounting arrangement shown. Backdraft
dampers mounted in roof curbs shall be secured to galvanized steel support

Backdraft dampers shall be heavy duty relief shutter type suitable for wall
and duct mounting or installation at a fan discharge and shall be constructed
as follows:

Damper frame shall be constructed of at least 2 mm thick aluminium or
at least 1.2 mm galvanized steel. Damper frame shall be of channel

Damper blades shall be constructed of at least 1 mm extruded aluminium
suitable for face velocities up to 7.5 m/s and at least 1.20 mm extruded
aluminium for face velocities to 12.5 m/s. Damper blades shall have
neoprene or vinyl gaskets rivetted or rolled into the blade edges. Each Comply
backdraft damper section shall be furnished with tie bars constructed of at
least 1.2 mm aluminium. Furnish two (2) tie bars on damper sections
over 1000 mm wide.

Where fire partitions are used as smoke partitions, dampers shall be
combination fire/ smoke type as specified above.
Smoke dampers shall be constructed 3.4 mm sheet steel with high

Smoke dampers shall be of the following types:


- Type 1; with factory standard sleeve and electric operator, models MA-
418 or MP-2781 (220v/50hz).
- Type II; parallel blade damper with electric operator 220v/50hz. Use in
discharge duck work at supply fan and return air where applicable.Damper shall close
upon activation of smoke detector or shall stop upon
damper housing and end switches for override light indication.
