Sprinklers and Hose Cabinets System Calculations: -

- Bases of Calculations:

0 The occupancy classification is ordinary hazard (Group 1) for basement (1&2) from
NFPA. And light hazard for the upper floors Pages 13-14, 13-167, 13-168

Refer to attachment no. (1), (2), (3),

1 The pipe sizing is based on pipe schedule method as per NFPA 13, table {8-5-2-2} &
Table {8-5-3-2 (a)}. Refer to attachment no. (4), (5).

2 Minimum residual pressure required at sprinkler, for ordinary hazard, is 20 psi

(1.38 BAR) and for light hazard is 15psi (1bar) from table (7-2.2.1) of NFPA13.
Refer to attachment No (6).

3 Minimum residual pressure required, at the outlet of fire hose reel, is 65 PSI (4.5 Bar)
from NFPA14 page (14-16). Refer to attachment No. (7).
4 Total area served by the sprinklers system is (279) m2.

5 Pendent sprinklers standard application with K-factor (5.6) used for covering area with
false ceiling, this sprinklers shall be distributed, as following:
(1940) Sprinklers at ground floor.
(1842) Sprinklers at first floor.
(721) Sprinkler at second floor
(503) Sprinkler at basement (2)

6 Upright sprinklers standard application with K-factor (5.6) used for covering area
without false ceiling, this sprinklers shall be distributed, as following:
(2939) sprinklers at basement (1)
(1691) sprinkler at basement (2)
7 sidewall sprinklers standard application with K-factor (5.6) used for covering area
without false ceiling, this sprinklers shall be distributed, as following:
(4) Sprinklers at basement (2)

8 Main friction losses are calculated by Hazen – Williams's formula of NFPA13.

Page 13-139
P= 6.05 (Q1.85/(C1.85 x ( D) 4.87 ))105 Refer to attachment No. (8).

Where P = Friction losses in (bar per m)

D = Diameter of pipe (mm)

Q = Flow in (L/Min)

C = Hazen -William Coefficient

(C = 120 for seamless pipe)

- Hydraulic Calculations

Pressure drop calculation for sprinklers:

イ The maximum spacing between two sprinklers = 4.6 m.

As per National Fire Protection Association Code "NFPA13" Table 5-6 .2.2 (b)

Refer to attachment no. (9)

ロ For farthest sprinkler area at second floor (Theater no. 1)

ハ For room length = 21 m , Room width = 16 m

Refer to attachment no. (10)

ニ No. of sprinklers along the room length = 21÷ 4.6

= 4.56 take 5 Sprinklers.

ホ No. of sprinklers along the room width = 16÷ 4.6

= 3.48 take 4 sprinklers.

At the curved side of theatre we need 9 sprinklers for irregular

ヘ Total No. of sprinklers = 4 × 5 + 9 = 29 sprinklers.

ト Actual area served by one sprinkler = room area ÷ actual No. of sprinklers.

= 352÷ 29 = 12 m².

チ Water flow for each sprinkler = density × area.

As per National Fire Protection Association Code "NFPA13" page 13-83

Refer to attachment no. (11)

Water flow for pendent & upright sprinkler:-

= (0.1×12) / 0.0929 = 13 GPM

= 49.2 L/min

Cases of loading

The maximum open sprinklers area is 279 m2.

As per National Fire Protection Association Code "NFPA13" page 13-83

Refer to attachment no. (11)

-So the maximum load occur when all sprinklers at this area opened

Total No. of sprinklers at the maximum open sprinklers area =
Maximum area ÷ Actual area served by one sprinkler
= 279 ÷12 = 23.25 take 24 sprinkler.
Maximum flow rate =24 × 49.2 = 1181 L/min
