WEEK 5- News Report

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 28) — Nine people were killed in the aftermath of
Typhoon Quinta, disaster agency officials said Wednesday.

In its latest situational report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council
said a total of nine dead, six injured, and two missing persons were reported in Central Luzon,
Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western and Central Visayas.

Of the dead, seven were from Mimaropa. Four drowned: a mother and her baby in Magsaysay,
Occidental Mindoro; a male in Mogpog, Marinduque; and a male in Odiongan, Romblon. The
three others were hit by a falling tree: a female from Oriental Mindoro; a male from El Nido,
Palawan; and another male from Odiongan, Romblon.

The NDRRMC is validating information on two other deaths in Central Visayas.

The NDRRMC has no breakdown yet on the specific locations and other details of the
casualties, the agency's spokesperson Mark Timbal said.

A total of 209,457 residents or 49,557 families from 787 barangays in the said regions were
affected by Typhoon Quinta, which is already outside Philippine territory.

Meanwhile, 1,742 passengers and 464 rolling cargoes were reported stranded in the different
ports of the five regions as well as Cordillera Administrative Region. More than 90 road sections
and 20 bridges were affected by flooding, road slip, landslide, and soil erosion.

Total damage to agriculture and infrastructure was estimated at nearly ₱430 million in Ilocos
Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has prepared stockpiles and standby funds
amounting to ₱890.1 million to be distributed across the affected regions.
