Title: Handling, Storage & Preservation.

RADIOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES:

1) Handle all radioactive materials as per company’s Radiation Safety Manual


NDT/RP 001 latest revision prepared by the RSO and approved by the client
and available with all the radiographers and concerned persons.
2) Store all radioactive materials in the pit as detailed in the NDT/RP 001.
3) Preserve the radioactive materials only in the pit room.
4) Perform packaging and delivery of decayed source under the supervision of
RSO or designated assignee.
5) Handle all X-ray films delicately, ensuring that they are not subjected to and
preserved away from fumes; humidity, high temperature, chemical vapour
and radioactive materials during storage. While on site and in the
performance of radiography take the possible precautions to maintain the
temperature, humidity and away from the radioactive projector.
6) Store all the X-ray film boxes on their edges and do not stack one above the
other.
7) Legibly write the expiry date on the film box and issue film on FIFO basis.
8) Store all the X-ray film, processing chemicals away from film boxes and in
stores away from delicate instruments. (Highly corrosive).
9) Discard all the expired films and chemicals.

ULTRASONIC EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES:

1) Handle the flaw detectors making use of the arrangement provided manually.
2) Clean all the parts of the equipment before and after use.
3) Store the box along with equipment in the place identified for each item. Do
not stack one above the other.
4) Keep the probes in the box provided with the equipment.
5) Coil the cables, and band the coil along with the connectors.
6) One set of coil and connectors shall not mix with the other set.
7) Keep the calibration blocks in their respective box/case, identified for it.
8) While storing do not stack one above the other.
9) Do not expose any part of the system to high temperature and humidity.
10) While storing, keep the batteries fully charged.
11) Separate and label all the defective cables, probes, connectors and
batteries.
12) Preserve all the parts as per the manufacturer recommendation
wherever stored in the stores.

MAGNETIC PARTICLE EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES:

1) Keep the magnetic yokes only in their respective box and label the item.
2) Store the box along with the equipment on a table identified for it.
3) Store at levels that facilitate the movement and maintain safety as the yokes
are heavy and falls can be dangerous.
4) Store magnetic powder, Calibration blocks, Conductors and field indicators
besides the particular yoke for MPI.
5) Place the mobile prod equipment on the floor identified for the equipment.
6) Store the black light, filters and transformer in the box provided by the
manufacturer and label the equipment.
7) Separate and label all the defective parts.
8) Deliver the item from the store and receive the item only in the container
(box) supplied by the manufacturer.
9) Preserve the equipment as per manufacturer’s recommendation.

DYE PENETRANT EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES:

1) Handle all the penetrant materials (penetrant, developer and cleaner) as per
the manufacturer’s recommendation.
2) Do not mix one family of penetrant materials with the other.
3) Separate all the expired penetrant materials and label them.
4) Store in a cool, dark (in cartons) and dry place.
5) Always handle, store and preserve the materials away from high temp. and
open flame.
6) Discard all the empty and expired containers.

HEAT TREATMENT EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES:

1) Keep all PWHT materials in their proper place in store.


2) Move machines mounted on castors by manually pushing the machine to the
required job area.
3) Receive from and deliver to the stores, all PWHT material within the packing
provided by the manufacturer.
4) Label all defective equipment and store separately for further corrective action.
5) Do not expose thermocouple wire, insulating wool and electronic accessories
to excessive moisture.
6) Store and preserve the thermocouple wire on its original spools.

HOLIDAY DETECTION EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES :

Title: Handling, Storage & Preservation.

1) Store Holiday Detector equipment in its place in stores.


2) Do not store equipment in hot and humid place.
3) Handle the equipment as recommended by the manufacturer.
4) Pack the equipment in its own packing provided by the manufacturer.
5) Deliver the equipment from or to the stores within its own packing provided by
the manufacturer and in working condition.
6) Label and keep in a separate place, equipment that is found to be defective.
7) Holiday Detector equipment will be handled by authorised persons.
8) Check periodically the power packs or battery packs for proper functioning.
9) Store equipment, if for extended periods of time, away from all other metallic
objects to prevent electrical shock to personnel and damage to the equipment.

EDDY CURRENT EQUIPMENT & ACCESSORIES:

1) Handle the equipment, coil and probe in the manner described within the
instructor’s manual.
2) Store the equipment always in the box provided by the manufacturers.
3) Coils connecting the probe and the instrument shall be numbered and identified
with length and Ø of the probe wound tied and hanged in the designated area.
4) Do not keep on the ground.
5) Calibration tubes (non-ferrous) shall be identified and kept close to the Eddy
Current testing equipment.
6) Store and preserve the equipment in the designated area.

THERMOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT & ACCESSORIES:

1) Handle the thermography equipment in the manner as described in the operator’s


manual whenever put into use.
2) Cover the heat sensor whenever not in use.
3) Store the thermography equipment, imaging system (videography) and all
software only in the box provided by the manufacturer.
4) Locate the parts in their respective compartment provided in the box.
5) Do not stack any other object on the box.
6) Label and identify the item.
7) Preserve the item as per the manufacturer recommendations.

INTERNAL ROTARY INSPECTION SYSTEM EQUIPMENT:

1) After each operation clean and dry the probe, rollers, turbine, springs and other
moving parts.
2) Place the system in the box provided for it.
3) Store the box in the place identified for it and label the equipment.
4) Follow the instructions of the manufacturer to preserve the item.

5) Handle the calibration block (a piece of pipe), with utmost care.


6) Preserve the block in the place provided in the carrying case.
7) Pumps, hoses, tubes and tanks, which make part of the system shall be stored in
one place and by the side of the IRIS equipment and labelled as “IRIS
Accessories”.
8) Store the ‘readout’ equipment along with the other accessories of IRIS.
9) Separate and label all the defective components for further action.

CATHODIC PROTECTION EQUIPMENT & ACCESSORIES:

1)All equipment shall be kept in its proper space in the stores.


2)Electronic meters shall be stored in their respective cases as provided by the
manufacturer and kept out from high temperatures and humidity.
3)The handling of Cathodic Protection equipment and materials shall be done in the
manner prescribed by the manufacturer, especially in case where transporting
anodes, due care must be exercised to ensure that these are not damaged.
4)Anodes must be retained within the packaging provided by the supplier, both
during storage and during transport.
5)Cables must be stored wound upon their provided spools and particular car must
be exercised to avoids kinks, bends and damage to the cable during transport.
