BATHTUB:

• A bathtub or bath is a container for

holding water in which a person or
animal may bathe. Most modern
bathtubs are made
of thermoformed acrylic, porcelain
enameled steel, fiberglass-
reinforced polyester, or porcelain
enameled cast iron. A bathtub is
usually placed in a bathroom either as
a stand-alone fixture or in conjunction
with a shower.
TWO MAIN STYLES OF BATHTUB ARE
COMMON:
• Western style bathtubs in which the bather lies down. These baths are typically
shallow and long.
• Eastern style bathtubs in which the bather sits up. These are known as furo in
Japan and are typically short and deep.
TYPES OF BATHTUBS:
1. Corner bathtub
2. Drop-in bathtub
3. Freestanding tub
4. Clawfoot tub
5. Whirlpool and air tub
6. Generic bathtub
(1) CORNER BATHTUB
• A corner bathtub is a bathtub with two
sides anchored by walls. They are
usually triangular in shape, but can be
made across a wide spectrum of
shapes and sizes so they can fit into a
corner and are typically large enough
to accommodate anywhere between
one to two other bathers.
Materials:
• Most corner bathtubs you'll encounter are made using fiberglass and acrylic as
they're affordable options. Acrylic is the most popular choice as it is lightweight,
durable, and capable of holding heat in well. As for fiberglass, it is conveniently
lightweight and especially affordable, but it is prone to scratching. It also doesn’t
hold heat. Although these two options are common, they're not the most durable.
What's more, they aren't known for bringing anything extra in terms of aesthetics.
If you are prepared to invest in a tub that’s heavy duty and beautiful at the same
time, then consider materials like cast iron, steel, marble, and copper.
DIMENSIONS:
• 5 ft x 5 ft or 60 in x 60 in with 20 in. or 1.6 ft as water depth.
• A small size measures 48 in x 48 in with 18 in. or 1.5 ft as water depth.
• The large size runs at 72 in x 72 in or 6 ft x 6 ft with 20 in. or 1.6 ft as water depth.

PRICE: 60,000- 90,000/-

HOW TO INSTALLED CORNER
BATHTUB:
Step 1
• Replace any damaged subflooring in the bathroom. The fiberglass corner will need a level and sturdy base.
Step 2
• Locate the plumbing in the room and ensure that the fittings are in place for the tub. Hire a plumber if you are inexperienced or
uncomfortable with proper plumbing techniques.
Step 3
• Build a wood frame for the corner tub. Each manufacturer requires different framing instructions, so refer to the installation directions
that came with the corner tub. Use the specifications in the instructions, a hammer, screwdriver, lumber and screws to build the frame.
Use a stud finder to locate wall studs in the bathroom corner where you will be installing the tub.
Step 4
• Lift the tub into place in the corner of the room with the help of a partner. Set a long level across the top of the tub. Adjust the tub until
it is level by putting wooden shims under the tub.
Step 5
• Screw the tub into place with a screwdriver and galvanized screws. Place the screws through the nailing flange and into the wall studs.
Step 6
• Connect the overflow assembly to the drain connections on the tub with a wrench. Follow the manufacturer's directions or call in a
plumber if you are uncomfortable making the connections yourself.
Step 7
• Finish the wall above the tub and the tub framing with tile or drywall.
(2) DROP-IN BATHTUB:
• A drop in bathtub is a bathtub
that has been finished on all
sides with a lip or rim, allowing
it to be fastened or secured to a
finished alcove or structure
commonly referred to as a
surround.
MATERIALS:
• Drop in bathtubs are typically constructed from a variety of materials, most
commonly fiberglass, acrylic, cast iron and solid surface materials. Fiberglass is
very affordable, but the material isn’t physically durable and will tend to warp and
become unstable due to its porous nature. Acrylic is constructed from fiberglass
mixed with resin and a more durable coat, making it a bit more expensive than
fiberglass, but the material is non-porous, making it much more durable in the
long term. However, acrylic does not have excellent heat retention when compared
to a material such as cast iron which is a bit more expensive, but the material is
very durable, able to weather quite a bit of physical and chemical punishments
while retaining excellent heat retention. And last are the solid-surface materials or
Stone Resin. Constructed from smashed stone and resin bonded together, this
material is non-porous and has a comparable heat retention to cast iron.
Size:
• Height: 23.25” | 59 cm
• Width:31.5” | 80 cm
• Depth:19.75” | 50 cm
• Length:59.125” | 150 cm
• Depth (Water): 15 3/4” | 40 cm

• Price:50000- 1 lakh/-
HOW TO INSTALLED DROP-IN BATHTUB:
Step 1
• Measure the alcove space with a measuring tape. These measurements will help you to purchase the right size of bathtub.
Step 2
• Place a piece of cardboard in the bottom of the tub. The cardboard will keep the bottom of the tub from getting scratched as you work.
Step 3
• Check the subfloor where the tub will be located. The floor should be level and sturdy.
Step 4
• Build a frame for the tub that fits into the alcove using the manufacturer specifications. Most drop-in tub manufacturers include instructions for building the tub
frame.
Step 5
• Set the tub in place and mark the holes for the plumbing and fixtures. Remove the tub from the framing.
Step 6
• Install the plumbing. Homeowners who are uncomfortable with this should consult with a plumber or licensed professional.
Step 7
• Place the drop-in bathtub in the frame again. Set a level on the top of the tub. Shim the tub with wooden shims until the top of the tub is level. Secure the tub by
screwing galvanized screws through the tub flanges into the wall studs. In some cases, the tub may also come with mounting blocks that go under the lip of the
tub. Consult the manufacturer directions of the tub as necessary.
Step 8
• Install the tub spout and drain per manufacturer directions.
Step 9
• Cover the bathtub framing with cement backerboard. Screw the backer board directly to the framing.
Step 10
• Tile the cement backerboard. Spread thin set mortar with a notched trowel and install the tiles over the mortar. Place tile spacers between the tiles. Cut the tiles
with a tile saw. Allow the mortar to dry overnight before grouting. Spread the grout with a grout float and remove the excess with a damp grout sponge. Let the
grout dry overnight before use.
(3) FREESTANDING TUB
• As the name suggests, a
freestanding tub is simply a bathtub
that sits on its own and is not built
into or otherwise attached to a wall.
It is this independence from the rest
of a bathroom that gives a
freestanding tub its versatility and
creates an attractive focal point for
the room.
MATERIALS:
• Freestanding tubs come in a wide variety of materials, such as acrylic, fiberglass,
cast iron, stainless steel, copper, and stone. Each material has its own advantages
and disadvantages. The two most common freestanding tub materials are acrylic,
stone resin and cast iron.
(4) CLAWFOOT:
• When people are looking to buy new
bathtubs they usually just go and buy
one that was similar to their old one.
Seeing as most people have only used
standard white acrylic bathtubs for
most if not all of their lives, it's
surprising that they don't check out
different types. Clawfoot tubs are a
type of bathtub design that was very
popular in past centuries but declined
in the last fifty or so years.
Interestingly they have now seen a
sudden burst of interest.
MATERIALS:
• Typically, there are two choices when it comes to clawfoot bathtubs Acrylic,
which is fast gaining popularity and Cast Iron, which is the traditional material
that is used. There are also some other more unique materials
like Acrastone which is a highly durable material with some properties of the
Acrylic and some of the traditional Cast Iron and Copper Clawfoot Tubs which are
very distinct in their appearance and feel
(5) WHIRLPOOL AND AIR BATHTUB:
• The pinnacle joy of a bath is to enjoy
the warm sensation of pulsating water
jet massaging and caressing every part
of the body. This procedure is
especially welcomed after a hard day's
work at the office or the need to relax
from a long and tedious journey. The
bubbles created by the whirlpool
activity, combined with shooting water
from the jets help to create the body
massage effect. Installing this kind of
luxury undoubtedly will cost more as
several special dedicated equipment
are required and expertly finished.
Material:
• The most common whirlpool tub materials are fiberglass, acrylic and cast
iron. Fiberglass is the most economical choice. Acrylic and cast iron are
both extremely durable and easy to clean. Consult your budget when
deciding which material to choose.

• Price: 1 lakh-1.50 lakh

GENERIC BATHTUB
• This is usually installed in a house for
the purpose of providing a bath
experience to family members and
perhaps may involve the pets, e.g. dog,
tortoise, small mammals to enjoy a dip
