Quiz No.

1
Solve each of the following problems using any solution strategy that you think is appropriate.

1. A true-false quiz contains five questions. In how many ways can a student
answer the questions if the student answers two questions with “false” and the
other three with “true”.
2. Determine the units digit (ones digit) of 4 200 .
3. There are 364 first-grade students in Park Elementary school. If there are 26
more girls than boys, how many girls are there?
4. What is the 44th decimal digit in the decimal representation of 1/11 ?
5. A shirt and a tie together cost Php 2,600. The shirt costs Php 1,560 more than
the tie. What is the cost of the shirt?
6. In a basketball league consisting of 12 teams, each team plays each of the other
teams exactly twice. How many league games will be played?
7. A frog is at the bottom of a 17-foot well. Each time the frog leaps, it moves up 3
feet. If the frog has not reached the top of the well, then the frog slides back 1
foot before it is ready to make another leap. How many leaps will the frog need to
escape the well?
8. The number of ducks and pigs in a field totals 35. The total number of legs
among them is 98. Assuming each duck has exactly two legs and each pig has
exactly four legs, determine how many ducks and how many pigs are in the field?
9. Four people on one side of a river need to cross the river in a boat that can carry
a maximum load of 180 pounds. The weights of the people are 80, 100, 150,
and 170 pounds.

a. Explain how the people can use the boat to get everyone to the opposite side
of the river.

b. What is the minimum number of crossings that must be made by the boat?

10. Dana received scores of 82, 91, and 76. What score does Dana need on the
fourth examination to raise his average to 85?

Answers:
1. We have 5 questions in those questions there are 2 false and 3 true
First if you answer false then there are 4 questions that can be answered by False
Second if you answer the first question fasle and the second question true there are 3
questions that can be answered false
Third you answer the first two true, the third false, there are two other questions you can
answer false.
Now you answer 4 questions T,T,F,T now only one pair is false
4+3+2+1=10 ways to answer

2. 24^200 = 16^100. But multiplying 16 to itself, since the ones digit is always from 6x6 = 36, the
unit digit is 6.

3There are two equations

.let the number of boys = B
Then
The number of girls = B+26

Number of boys + Number of girls = 364 students

B + B+26 = 364
2B+26 = 364
2B = 338
2 2
B = 169 boys
The number of girls = B+26 = 169+26 = 195
there are 26 more girls than boys

Number of girls = Number of boys + 26

G = 364-G + 26
G = 390-G
2G = 390
2 2
G = 195

There are 195 girls.

Let the number of girls = G

Let the number of boys = B

There are 364 first-grade students

G + B = 364

there are 26 more girls than boys

G = B+26

G + B = 364
B+26 + B = 364
2B + 26 = 364
2B = 338
2 2
B = 169 boys

G = B+26
G = 169+26
G = 195 girls.

4. 1/11 =0.0909090909 then the 44th decimal digit is 9

There are only 2 repeating decimal then the zero is always and odd number if you count it but
the nine is and even number the 44 is an even number

5.If we let X the cost of the tie and Y the cost of the Shirt, then:
There are two equations
X + Y= 2,600
Y = X + 1,560

X + (X + 1,560) = 2,600
2x + 1,560 = 2,600
2x = 1,040
2 2
X = 520
Now X = 520
520 + Y = 2,600
Y = 2,600 - 520
Y = 2,080
The shirt is 2,080

6 There are 12 teams

11 times 12 = 132
Because first match is 66 times by 2 is 132
The first team cannot compete with each other that's why the number is 11 and times by 2 since
2 matches now t

7 it takes 8 jumps
In first jump, distance jump = 3+ (-1)
= 2 Feet
The -1 frog does not reach the top

If the frog jump 2 times it reaches 3 feet

And if the frog jumped 7 times it reaches 14 feet so the 8th (14 + 3) jump is equals to 17
because it reached the top so it does not slide back

8 2d + 4p = 98

D + P = 35
solve for D and P
The equation is d = ?p + ?

d+p=35
2d+4p=98
d=35-p
2(35-p) +4p=98
70–2p+4p=98

2p=28
2 2
P = 14
p=14, d=21
14*4 + 21*2 = 98

9 A. Crossing 1 : 80 & 100 pounds

Cross Crossing 2 : 80 pounds,
Returns Crossing 3 : 170 pounds
Crosses Crossing 4 :100 pounds.
Crosses Crossing 5 Crossing 6 Crossing 7 :100 pounds,
Returns : 80 & 100 pounds,
Cross 80 pounds
Returns : 150 pounds,
Crosses Crossing 8 Crossing 9 Crossing 10 :100 pounds,
Returns Crossing 11 : Persons weighing 80 & 100 pounds,
B. 9

10. Average of 4 exams = 85

Number of exam 4th
Exams 82 + 91 + 76
Solution
82 + 91 + 76 + n = 85
4
249 + n = 85
4
249 + n = 85 times 4
N = 85 times 4 -249
= 340 - 249
=91
91 is the score needed needed
