City Manager Souza,

In 1935, Town Councilors motioned to name Cale Jones as the Town's first Fire Chief; he
was instructed to hire the Town's first 7 firefighters and form an all-volunteer fire squad.
Their assignment was the same as it is today - protect the lives and property of the
residents and visitors always serving the community to the highest level. Since 1989 and
working my way up the ranks, achieving the position of Fire Chief in 2016, I have made
this my mission as well.

When I assumed the Fire Chief position, our department was in poor shape. Low morale
plagued the workforce, the community looked upon the organization poorly, the agency
could not cooperate with neighboring jurisdictional partners and refused to join the new
computer aided dispatch, and the closest unit response protocol. As the Interim Fire Chief,
I organized a 40 for 40 goal which led our personnel into tackling the 40 high priority
objectives from the City's Fire and Rescue Master Plan and our department never slowed
down. Some of the achievements under my leadership include:

. Improved the Public Protection Classification by Insurance Services Organization to an

ISO Class 1
. Led a $9. 5 million Fire Administration / Fire Station / Emergency Operations Center
(EOC) construction project
. Developed a 5-year Strategic Plan for Fire-Rescue
. Established two Deputy Chief positions to enhance the fire administration of the
department
. Achieved the recommendations and initiatives of a commissioned Fire Master Plan
. Developed, encouraged and fostered new Community Outreach Programs
.
Served as Incident Commander for Hurricane Irma and developed an After-Action Report
.
Conducted Annual Hurricane Tabletop exercises to ensure preparedness
Implemented the newComputer Aided Dispatch and Closest Unit Response forthe City
Initiated a Fire-Rescue Daily Recap for increased transparency

The Fire-Rescue Department is healthyand even though ourleadership is very new, it is

in the best position it has been in for many, many years. I have been blessed in so many
waysto be a part ofthis organization for 32 years and grateful to serve as your Fire Chief
for the past 5 plus years. It is my intention to retire, my last day will be September 30,
2021. My hopes are to continue in the Fire Service and use my leadership and
management skills in another organization. I stand ready to assist the City of Naples in
any manner during this transition and search for a new Fire Chief.
