 I Ship Security Alert Messages solely addresses to competent authorities designated by the administration.
Ship Security Alert System is capable of being covertly activated from the navigation bridge and from at least

one other location.
Operation of the activation point does not cause any alarm or indication to be raised on the ship nor alert other

ships.

 I In case of failure of main power supply, alternative source of power is available.

Alternative source of power is either emergency power supply, a storage battery charged with emergency
 I
power source, or independent battery of 24 hours or more.
Ship Security Alert System activation points is designed so as to prevent the inadvertent initiation of the ship
 I security Alert. It is not necessary for the user to remove seals or to break any lid or cover in order to operate
any control.
The activation points operates a radio system so that transmission of the security Alert does not require any
 I
adjustment of the radio system, i.e., tuning of channels, setting of modes or menu options.

 I The operation of the Ship Security Alert system does not impair the functionality of the GMDSS installation.
Transmission initiated by security alert system activation points includes a unique code/identifier (ship’s
identify, e.g. call sign, IMO ship identification number or Maritime Mobile Service Identify (MMSI) and
 I
ship’s security Alert activation indication. It is to be verified that the alert message contains all particulars
required by flag administration if any.
Where Ship Security Alert System is installed before 1 July 2004, the transmission includes the ship identify
 I
and current position (latitude and longitude).
Where Ship Security Alert System is installed on or after 1 July 2004, the transmission includes the ship
 I
identify and current position (latitude and longitude) associated with a date and time.
Ship Security Alert Messages (Ship’s identify, ship’s position and ship’s security alert activation indication)
 I
are generated automatically with no input from the operator other than security alert system activation.
Once activated, Ship Security Alert System continues to transmit the security Alert until it is reset or
 I deactivated. The interval between transmissions of the alerts is as short as possible. (e.g. Between 15 minutes
and one hour)

 I The Ship Security Alert System is capable of being tested.

 I Wiring (power cable and antenna cable) has been permanently installed.

 I Operation manual and maintenance manual provided by manufacturer are placed onboard.

 I, P, R Operational test of SSAS has been carried out and confirmation obtained.

 I, P, R Relevant ship’s staff are familiar with location of SSAS activation points and procedures for operation.

 P, R No changes have been made and installed conditions have been maintained.
