STAGE 3 – LEARNING PLAN
APPROACH IMPLEMENTATI
ON
Meeting 1 – 2 periods
Competency: Define what is classification and explain why do we have to classify?
Engagement: Socratic Synchronous
- Tell the students that they will learn about plants and animals’ questioning / Learning
classification today. discussion
- Test students’ prior knowledge about classification by asking them what
is classification and how we classify things?
- Show them some daily objects (ex: fruits, food) in the power point
presentation and ask them to classify the objects.
- Students will be explaining voluntarily how they classify the objects?
- Expected answer: by the object’s physical appearance (colour, shape, etc)
- Ask the students do they know why do we have to classify things?
Exploration and explanation Interactive Synchronous
Students will be shown a problem: learning Learning
- Problem: Suzie works in a groceries store. One day her boss asked her to Individual
put some new groceries in the cabinet then report to her every month how discussion
many groceries are left. This is what Suzie did; show to the students that
Suzie did not classify the groceries in the cabinet.

- Students will be explaining what will happen once she had to report to her
boss? What Suzie needed to do?
- Voluntarily students must explain why do we need to classify things
learning from Suzie’s problem previously.
- Students will be shown some objects such as: hole puncher, pencil, book,
pencil case
Evaluation: Discussion Synchronous
- Students will take note why is it important to classify things, then give Learning
an example of classification problem (description)
- Students will do a practice from the textbook. (homework)
Meeting 2 - 2 periods Synchronous
Define what is dichotomous key and describe its function Learning
Engagement
- Review the previous lesson by recalling what is classification and why do
we have to classify
- Tell the students that there is a way to classify things; dichotomous key.
- Show them a simple example of dichotomous key diagram.
- Students will define what is dichotomous key and what is the
characteristic of dichotomous key (yes/no question) by looking at the
diagram
Exploration
- After students know what is dichotomous key and what is the Discussion Synchronous
characteristic, students will be shown some pictures of fruits. Problem based Learning
- Then they will have to identify the physical appearance of each of the learning
fruits. They list down the characteristics in their notebook.
- From the physical appearance identification previously, students will be
given an incomplete dichotomous key diagram.
The diagram will only show some fruits with the answer yes or no like the
example below:
yes
Is it round? no Banana Apple
no

yes yes

- Then they will compete the dichotomous key diagram given from the
teacher
Evaluation
- Students will then explain voluntarily their own work and the function Discussion Synchronous
of the dichotomous key. Others give their opinion as well right after Q and A learning
their friend.
- Random students will answer the questions (why we need to use
dichotomous key, how do you use physical appearance for
classification)
- Students will write down the answer in their notebook, then they will
upload in the google classroom. Teacher will ask students randomly
for confirmation.
Meeting 3 - 1 period Interactive Asynchronous
In this meeting, students will be answering questions in the textbook chapter 3 learning Learning
lesson 1 togsether, then there will be a discussion. This lesson will be Individual
discussing binomial nomenclature discussion
Meeting 4 – 2 periods
Elaboration Individual Asynchronous
- Review the previous lesson about classification using the dichotomous discussion Learning
key
- Tell the students that today, they will be classifying animals by using
dichotomous key
- Students will be shown some pictures of animals then they will
identify the characteristics of the animals from their physical
appearances.
- Students will then classify the animals from the physical appearances
they have listed down previously by completing the diagram of
dichotomous key
Example:

4 legs? dogs snake

yes noyes

no

Evaluation
- Students will be doing a worksheet then they have to upload their work
in google classroom.
Meeting 5 – 2 periods
Assessment – QUIZ Assessment Asynchronous
Students will be doing the quiz in answer sheet model paper 2 Learning
Meeting 6 – 2 periods
Book review chapter 3 lesson2 and 3
Meeting 7 – 2 Periods
Plants classification – Kegiatan pada meeting ini akan dibahas di rapat science
kelas 5
